This is a 1962 Gibson EB-3 bass, serial number 83436, in excellent condition.  This is one of the earliest EB-3’s we have come across, including its original brown case, with the features that makes this one of the most sought-after of Gibson Basses.    This EB-3 still has its original hangtag, and features the wider control knob pattern and a 1  11/16-inch wide fingerboard at the stringnut, with a neck depth that is a medium C-shaped contour.  So, this one is certainly more comfortable to play if you have normal sized hands; it is not like the more slender necks of the late 1960’s that are popular with people who have smaller sized hands.    The original cherry red finish on this rare instrument shows only some light playing wear, primarily some belt buckle rash, and a few minor nicks and dings and scuff marks.   The bass appears fully original including tuning keys, pickups, pots, bridge, 5-ply beveled black pickguard, and reflector top black bonnet knobs.  This bass still has its original cover plate, and even its original mute pad, which is still operational.  There has been a strap button added at the neck heel, which appears to be the only alteration.  A previous owner felt that this bass balanced better with the slightly different strap button placement.  Since this instrument’s neck dimensions are a bit ‘beefier’ than the later 1960’s slim neck basses, we can understand why he chose to move his strap location.  There are no cracks in the body or neck or headstock repairs, and the neck is very straight.  The original frets show only minor wear, as seen in the close-up picture.   This rare bass weighs 7 pounds, 15.3 ounces, and would make a fine addition to any vintage bass collector’s arsenal.   It sounds marvelous.    As already mentioned, this EB-3 bass comes in its original brown Gibson case with deep red plush lining, with all working hinges and latches.  Only the handle was replaced years ago.   It has case candy including the pickups instruction sheet and the original hangtag that is stamped ‘EB-3’. We offer a 48-hour approval period with money back guarantee, so feel free to bid with confidence.  Choose 'Buy It Now', and we pay all shipping and insurance costs in the U.S., and half the mailing costs overseas.    Shipping to Australia is more costly that shipping to Europe or Japan, because this instrument's case size requires a full size guitar box whose dimensions are not accepted by the post office's package service to Australia.   However, shipping through Fed-Ex to Australia can be accomplished for $395.  And, again, we pay half of those costs if you choose ‘Buy It Now’.  Enjoy bidding.
