A full double F/Bb French Horn, made by Weltklang, in the former GDR, being a copy of the iconic Alexander 103 horn. These 103 copies are somewhat better than many such, the old East German craftsmen were, just that, craftsmen. These are designed for the student, amateur and improving player. They blow very well. They are built to last the rigours of student ownership, having plenty of metal. All GDR horns were well made. The serial number is 105657. The horn was made for the famous London importer Rudall Carte & Co Ltd. It was supplied by Paxmans, London. All this information is engraved on the horn itself. This one is in unusually very good cosmetic condition. The yellow brass has been cleaned and buffed up professionally by a brass repairman, and it looks worlds better than it did before. A few residual marks remain, see photos, but could be eradicated by elbow grease and Brasso, if required. The price reflects the quality and condition of the horn, it is by far the best of these I have ever owned, and I have owned 5 over the years. It is dent-free, but there is a mark on the bell flare rim where a former mark has been professionally rolled out, see specific photo of this. The rotor valves move smoothly and the slides all slide nicely. I have given it a good service before listing. The mouthpiece is an authentic Alexander No 8. I had no problems with getting from the pedal notes on both sides to Top D, my absolute ceiling on any horn. The horn plays nicely in tune. The case is a brand spanking new Gear4Music case, which fits the horn well and offers fine protection at low weight. This model is often offered with a tired, worn out case. Not this one. Any inspection is welcome, of course, prior to buying, at my home in Bridlington East Yorkshire YO16 6YU. Postage by tracked Parcelforce or free collection in person. Cash on collection preferred, PayPal, Postal Orders or a cleared cheque welcome for buyers using a delivery service. UPS one-day service, fully insured for total value, tracked also offered. Parcelforce offer £100 compensation for loss/damage. With a horn of this value, I would myself choose the courier option at £28, as it offers full cover for the full value, though I have never had a horn damaged in transit by Parcelforce.
