1979 Fender Stratocaster Serial Number - S958561 (circa 1979)   I am trying to be as accurate as I am able. I'm fairly sure it is 1979 because of the person I purchased it from knew a lot about it. I venture to say it is an original Strat from approximately 1979. There were some there, but I found no readable identifying marks on the body cavity. I say circa 1979 because of the POTS: they have 78 on them. Not unusual for an earlier year part, to be put in a later year guitar. Same thing for the pickups: they have 016730 cast on them in an indentation. This is what I found about the pickups:   The 016730 plastic bobbins may have debuted in '79. I haven't been able to find an exact date, but in '79 or '80 the X-1 Strat pickup changed from fiber flatwork to the plastic bobbin. I haven't found anything about whether regular Strat pickups changed at the same time, but it's likely that they did.
Very cool guitar. Full of mojo, this is a great player with a unique sound. Set-up is relative to what I like and was professionally done by Third Street Music in Marietta, Ohio a couple years back. With .09 strings the action is low and the neck is straight. Comes with original whammy bar and five (5) way switch. Looks like a C neck with frets in good condition. Guitar weighs approximately nine (9) lbs. You'll find some scratches and some minor dings but nothing really bad or worn too much. The round part of the head-stock has some dings on it; looks like somebody (not me), at some point, would store their capo bar there when they weren't using it. Also a blemish on the top of neck by the nut. The case looks original; from the 70's and the one it's always been in as far back as I can go with it.   I've owned it for about 10 years but played sporadically. Purchased it from my niece's husband who purchased it from the supposed original owner in the mid 1980's. It was fairly new when he first got it and had played in little garage type combo, so it wasn't gigged in the broad sense of the word. Has been in non smoking home for sure since the mid 1980's and most likely always.   As is - no reserve - no return item. Pleas ask questions before bidding with enough time for me to answer as correctly as possible.I will ship international but winner pays the extra costs.
