Vintage Epiphone Stathopoulo Hawaiian Ukulele KOA RARE! Only Seen in Catalogs
Rare 1900's era Stathopoulo ukulele. Strathopoulo was to become the famous Epiphone company during the 1920's. This instrument is from the teens. Body is constructed of highly flamed koa wood. Neck is 13 pieces, built from walnut, and maple. Both the top, and back are single bound. Body measures 6 1/4" wide, and 2 1/4" deep, 12 fret neck. Inside it's labeled "Hawaiian Special Ukulele" with the 247 West 42nd St New York shop address. This is an genuine pre Epiphone Stathopoulo instrument, and can be found in catalogs. I've showed this Ukulele to some of the biggest vintage instruments aficionado's in America, and I haven't found one who has ever seen this instrument for sale, only in catalogs. I purchased it in New York State many years back. Condition is very good plus, with the following repairs. It has two, 2" repaired top cracks below the bridge (see pics), also one 2" crack above the sound hole. Ebony bridge appears to have been changed. Repairs were done long ago, and there is no seam separations. Original finish is excellent. Original fiction tuners. Plays, and sounds excellent. Comes with heavy duty hardshell case.
