Up for sale, a 1995 Gibson ES-335 Dot semi-hollowbody electric guitar; honestly played, 100% original, and in good working order. The ES-335 Dot represents Gibson's first solid attempt at recreating the magic of the early dot neck ES-335, and this example features a cherry gloss nitro lacquer finish, nickel hardware, and traditional 1 11/16" nut width on a slim taper '60s-style neck profile. Outfitted with a pair of stock '57 Classic PAF reissue humbuckers, there's a harmonic complexity, midrange punch, and top end clarity that this 335 delivers in spades. Strummed acoustically, this ES-335 has the classic low-mid warmth and smooth tonal qualities which have become a hallmark of the classic ES-335 sound, and the full, dynamic acoustic tone translates well through the pickups. The neck pickup has a detailed and round sound that pairs well with the bridge humbucker that provides plenty of kick, snarl and harmonic fullness, not to mention Gibson's classic near-endless sustain! The guitar weighs in at 8lbs 12oz. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this guitar plays very comfortably with low action, solid intonation and fresh 10-46 strings. The one-piece mahogany neck has a medium C profile that borders on the slimmer side of things down at the nut, growing gradually deeper as you move up the fretboard, without ever feeling unwieldy. The fretboard is a dark and stripey cut of rosewood, with pearloid dot inlays, and 22 original medium frets that are very clean, only showing light wear beneath the plain strings down at the nut and virtually no wear further up the board. The headstock sports a pearloid inlaid Gibson logo and classic crown inlay, as well as a set of original Grover Rotomatic tuning machines that turn smoothly and hold pitch well.
This guitar has had a very slender and slight headstock repair which has been professionally repaired both structurally and cosmetically. The break is now virtually invisible to the eye and smooth to the touch, best captured in the close up photo included with this listing. On the body, all of the original electronics work as they should, with the aforementioned '57 Classic PAF humbuckers wired to a three-way pickup selector and individual volume and tone pots for each pickup, with black bonnett knobs. The bridge pickup reads at 7.91k ohms, and the neck is 7.86k. The maple body has cream binding, black four-ply pickguard, and nickel hardware that has plenty of surface patina from the past 20+ years. Cosmetically, this guitar shows some light buckle rash on the back and a few modest nicks and scuffs on the body as a whole. The finish is also chipped along the edge of the bass side F hole, but of course this is purely an aesthetic concern. This ES-335 has an honestly played appearance, with well earned patina and a comfortable, worn-in feel. Well within reach of most players due to the cleanly repaired headstock heel fracture, this guitar is ready for stage and studio use!
The original Gibson hardshell case is included.
