Up for sale, a 2011 Fender Jazzmaster '62 reissue electric guitar in exceptional condition and perfect working order. Currently discontinued, this Jazzmaster embodies the quality craftsmanship associated of the Japanese line of Fender instruments. Made exclusively for the domestic Japanese market and rarely seen outside its country of origin, this Jazzmaster was officially designated the JM66 model, although the features of this vintage reissue Jazzmaster are actually associated with an early Pre-CBS instrument produced prior to 1963. These features include dot inlay on the slab rosewood fretboard, a "Spaghetti" logo, and Strat style knobs.
A textbook example of everything we love about the Jazzmaster, the instrument has plenty of twang and sparkle on tap, with a range of powerful and defined tones from the two single coil pickups, and warm, wooly sounds when switched to the rhythm circuit on the guitar's lower body horn. Weighing in at 8lbs 6oz, this Jazzmaster has a crisp, clear acoustic tone that translates well through the pickups, and the guitar balances nicely on a strap as well. Setup to perfection here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar where we specialize in Fender Offset instruments, this Jazzmaster is dialed in and ready for the stage and studio with fresh 10-46 strings. The vintage amber tinted maple neck has a comfortable medium C shaped profile with nicely rounded shoulders and a smooth gloss finish. The nut has the traditional Fender 1 5/8" width and the slab rosewood fretboard has a uniform grain with a deep chocolate brown color and dot inlay. The scale length is a full 25 1/2", and the fretboard has a vintage Fender spec 7 1/4" radius. The frets are in great shape, showing only minor wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-4 and no wear further up the neck. Overall, the frets have very well rounded crowns and plenty of height and life left. The truss rod is responsive and the neck is straight with ideal action and no buzzing or dead spots anywhere on the fretboard. The headstock sports an Pre-CBS style "Spaghetti" Jazzmaster logo, with Kluson style tuning machines which turn smoothly and hold pitch well. All of the electronics work as they should, and the wiring and pickups are stock. The vibrato unit works smoothly, and the bridge has been upgraded to a Tune-o-Matic style, identical to the bridge used on the J Mascis signature Jazzmasters. The gloss three-tone sunburst finish, tortoise pickguard, and white plastic parts are particularly clean, with barely a scratch on the guitar and only a few tiny dings on the back and near the rear strap button. The "Made in Japan" designation and U prefix serial number are present at the heel of the neck just above the neck plate. This JM66 Jazzmaster from Japan is a rare and very well cared for example of a now discontinued and desirable model that adheres to vintage Fender specs! The original padded Fender gigbag and vibrato arm are included.
