Up for sale, a 1960 Danelectro U1 model single pickup electric guitar in excellent condition and in good working order. This vintage USA-made Danelectro is as simple and pure as vintage guitar design gets, with a masonite and poplar body frame paired with a maple neck and outfitted with a single lipstick pickup. The hollow body naturally produces a sweet acoustic tone, which translates well through the single coil pickup with great percussive clarity, and bell-like top end chime. These pickups are known for their classic hollow twang, and they have a harmonic complexity that belies their simple design. Weighing in at 5lbs 10oz, this Dano is extremely easy on the back and the perfect secret weapon for studio sessions and gigs. We've dialed in the setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar to ensure proper action, and restrung the guitar with fresh 10-46 nickel strings. This guitar has been lovingly restored and professionally refinished, with a gloss black finish that matches the vintage Dano aesthetic quite well. The original white vinyl material was retained on the sides of the body for the proper vintage look, and a new nut and genuine vintage Danelectro bridge have been installed. This new finish deftly masks a previous route at the bridge for a different bridge and tailpiece which were cleanly plugged proper to the refinish and subsequent re-installation of the classic Dano bridge. The included close-up photo of the bridge shows the faint outline of the previous rout, and similar markings can be seen on the back, yet are harder to capture with a camera lens. The neck has a fairly slender C shaped profile, with a slab Brazilian rosewood fretboard and a professional refret with vintage-style fretwire. The new frets have well rounded crowns and show no notable wear on the 23 1/2" short scale. Playing cleanly up the neck, this Dano exhibits no buzzing or dead spots and the neck is very straight, with the original dual rod reinforced design. The nut measures 1 5/8" in width. The coke bottle headstock features a new "Danelectro" waterslide decal beneath the clear coat, and the stock open-back tuning machines are intact. These tuners work surprisingly well and turn smoothly with original white buttons.
The simple electronics work as they should, with Master Volume and Tone knobs to govern the single lipstick pickup. The stock CTS pots are intact, dating to 1960, and the original tone capacitor is present too. The original cream knobs are present, and the bridge is a genuine vintage Dano component with a Brazilian rosewood saddle. Cosmetically, this guitar shows very little wear since the gloss black refinish, with a few minor dings and scuffs from honest use, but no other notable wear.
