Built by John Liddy, an Australian luthier, best known for mandolins, this is one of 20 L5 copies he made in the nineties. I think he used the Gibson plans, which can be purchased. Side by side their are very few differences from the real thing. It is truly beautifully made, bound ebony fingerboard, solid carved top, Bartolini pickup, All Australian woods.
Because of the solid carved top (most recent Gibson are "laminated" e.g. plywood) The guitar is easily loud enough for practise without an amp. Also mikes up well in a studio. The Bartolini pickup is floating and has a very nice Tal Farlowe 50's warm jazzy sound. I used it with an AER compact 60. Very pretty.
John Liddy has gone to make guitars for that great band in the sky, but this legacy piece is still here.
I am only selling as I need to downsize my collection a bit. I can't do gigs any more because of poor health, and it's a waste to own such a nice guitar just to hang it on the wall. It should be played. I am in Queenscliffe, NSW. Inspection can be arranged. I am on Sydney northern beaches.
