Early 70's Gibson SG Standard with CaseSCROLL DOWN FOR 30+ LARGE PHOTOSUp for bids is a great playing vintage Gibson SG Standard. I bought it from the original owner and he said it bought it in 1970, but all of the pots are dated the 7th week of 1971, so that's what I'm going to call it. It has mostly 60's SG style features including the large Lyre tremolo tailpiece and a large pickguard. It does have a three piece neck with a volute and a Made in USA stamp. As you can see the finish has been stripped and it has a few changed small parts. Fortunately it has none of the common cracks that old SG's seem to get and it's ready to play as it is, and it would make a great refinish candidate (it would look awesome in Pelham Blue or other custom color). It has been professionally refretted and the work was very well done. It has a Gotoh bridge at the moment but I'll include a vintage Gibson bridge that needs saddles and a retaining wire. The truss rod cover looks newer. It has reflector top knobs rather than 'witch hat' knobs for some reason. The tone knobs look a little older and more yellowed than the volume knobs but they all look vintage. Five of the tuners are marked Gibson Deluxe and look original while one is an older 'single ring' Kluson Deluxe, which is probably worth a little bit by itself since those were used on late 50's Les Paul models. The pickups are black bobbin T-tops and both have portions of the black patent number stickers on the backs and removed covers. They have good output and sound great. I did notice that the neck pickup volume control doesn't taper off slowly as you turn it down but instead the volume drops quickly around the 7. The neck is straight with easy playing action. Frets show very little wear. The guitar comes with the original yellow lined hardshell case. I don't know what else to add so I'm including lots of clear, close up photos to show all the details.
