Body size at lower bout is 16" with a Scale length of 24 3/4" with a nut width: 1 11/16" This guitar has 100% original hardware, including Gibson 'Charlie Christian' 30's style single coil blade pickup; nickel Gibson-stamped Kluson Deluxe tuners, trapeze tailpiece with raised-parallelogram crossbar; compensated rosewood bridge; beveled 5-ply pickguard; extra set of gold bonnet knobs installed, original black knobs in case. Here is the background story on this rare, unique archtop electric guitar.  Announced late in 1936, Gibson's groundbreaking ES-150 ("Electric Spanish') model was Gibson's first 6 string guitar to be fitted with a magnetic pickup, and almost instantly became the world's first commercially successful electric guitar. Quickly championed by pioneering jazz guitarist Charlie Christian, the innovative blade type single coil pickup of the 150 became indelibly identified with the artist, who almost single-handedly invented modern solo jazz guitar. With its massive bar magnet and smooth hornlike tone, the "Charlie Christian" pickup captivated an entire generation of formative jazz plectrists, including Barney Kessel, Jimmy Raney and legions of others. Though produced sporadically by special order for a handful of custom guitars over the years, this legendary pickup was never formally reissued until the advent of this guitar, the ES-175CC. Produced in a single batch in this model year only, this retro model became an instant collector's item for players looking for true prewar tone. This example is in 100% original condition, free of cracks with the original finish and plating both bright and shiny. A distinctive feature are the Gibson logo Kluson Deluxe tuners, a rare variant seen only in this era. The 24 3/4" scale is fast and nimble, and the 16" body is easy to cradle and substantially resistant to feedback. And best of all, the distinctive hornlike tone that made the guitar a solo jazz instrument for the first time ever. This instrument is strung with medium gauge nickel flatwound strings (.012-.054). The guitar will accommodate lighter or heavier gauge strings, according to preference. String action is set at 5/64" to 6/64" at the 12th fret, with moderate relief for acoustic playing with medium strings. The action may be lowered or raised to your requirements with the adjustable bridge. In review, this Gibson ES-175CC is a version of the ES-175 equipped with a Charlie Christian pickup was made in 1979. Gibson announced the arrival of the ES-175CC as follows in their promotional material:     "Few guitars in their basic form have proved as popular as the ES-175 Gibson. The ES-175D is an immensely popular guitar among rock and country players as well as jazz artists. Easy action and that famous Gibson neck maintain this. Now Gibson have released the 175 CC, a guitar that is bound to make its presence felt.     Like the 175 D, the CC has an arched maple top, matching maple rims and arched maple back. A Florentine cutaway allows access to all 20 frets in the 24.75 scale length. The bridge and bridge saddle are contoured to ensure maximum acoustic resonance and Gibson has installed a chrome-plated bar tailpiece.     The historic single bar, single coil Charlie Christian pickup with individual tone and volume control is fitted. The neck is of laminated maple construction and the rosewood fingerboard bears square inlaid markers.  Once again Gibson have achieved a remarkable goal with the minimum of fuss. By the simple combination of a classic pickup with a classic guitar, a beautiful and individual instrument results." This Gibson ES-175CC Archtop Electric Guitar is being sold used and comes to you in close to excellent condition considering its age and appearance.  There are no major dings, marks or issues with this guitar with the exception of some pick marks showing in the finish around the knobs and light normal checking on the body.  This guitar was obviously well cared for. You will receive this item well-packed in a black tolex hard case (unsure if Gibson, no logo) in great shape with some original paperwork but without the original packaging.  Please contact this seller for additional information.
