42 YEARS OLD AFRICAN BLACKWOOD CLASSICAL GUITAR SET | MASTER GRADE LUTHIER TONEWOODFor sale is one African blackwood (Dalbergia melanoxylon) classical guitar set cut quarter sawn from a log with with over than 42 old belonging to a very old tree estimated between 120 and 150 years. African blackwood is the densest rosewood with 79 lbs/ft3 (1270kg/m3) and it is between the 3 heaviest woods on earth.
It is extremely difficult to cut a clean set due to the size of the tree and massive cracks characteristic from this rosewood.
The tonal properties are amazing; it is one of the top woods on the planet with a great harmonic range widely compared to Brazilian rosewood with the same bell-like overtone but with some extra volume with tighter and stronger sound.
This Dalbergia usually has straight grain with very fine oily texture; it has high tolerance to weather oscillations. The heartwood is dark brown to purplish black, sometimes nearly black while the sapwood is pale yellow.
As this set is so old that most of the oil content have disappear, so it is not so difficult to work or bend and takes finish well.
This extremely rare set it can only produce a master grade guitar.The measures are:
Backs: 550 x 140 / 215 x 3,5mm
Sides: 845 x 105 / 112 x 3,3mm
Note: The set was slightly sanded for better grain and colour evaluation the colour is actually darker than pictured. There are small cracks but all outside the templates area.We will be happy to consolidate your orders to save you shipping costs.
