This is a lovely 1922 Couesnon Monopole flugelhorn. This horn was made during the golden years of Couesnon production, when they were one of the most popular instrument manufacturers in Europe. The bore of the horn is big for a flugel at .442" (11mm) and the horn has a big, powerful sound to match. The bell is 6". The bell engraving is crisp and clean, and reads “EXPOSITION UNIVERSELLE DE PARIS/ 1900/ ‘HORS CONCOURS/ MEMBRE DU JURY/ COUESNON & CE/ FOURNISSEURS/ DES BEAUS-ARTS/ DU CONSERVATIORE NATIONAL/ ET DE L’ARMEE/ 94. RUE D’ANCOULEME/ PARIS/ MONOPOLE/ 31082/ 22/ Z. FIN/ HIRSON". This horn is in good condition for its age and plays very well. The valves feel very mechanically sound, with no wiggle from side to side, and the slides all move (although the third slide is stiff). As for the aesthetic condition of the horn, there are scratches and some small dings throughout the horn, and the plating over much of the instrument is beginning to let go. The water keys and the leadpipe have been replaced. All this is visible in the pictures, and none of it affects the playability of the horn. This instrument has been professionally cleaned in our shop and repaired to full playability. This horn comes with a Jet Tone Al Hirt model mouthpiece and a hardshell case in good condition. All horns are located at Silver & Brass Music Shop710 N. Curry St. Carson City, NV89703(775) 301-6289
