Up for sale, an immaculate and 100% stock 1966 Fender Coronado II in the original Lake Placid Blue custom color finish. This guitar is one of the most elegant and visually stunning iterations of this classic Fender model, with checkerboard binding, gold pickguard, minty chrome accents, floating ebony bridge base, and matching headstock. Weighing a mere 6lbs even, this fully hollow instrument has a bright and clear acoustic voice that translates well through the pair of original DeArmond-made single coil pickups. Clear, warm, and articulate when plugged in, the pickups deliver a wide range of tones, from sinewy twang and sparkle in the bridge position, to more mellow and full-bodied tones at the neck. One of the hallmarks of any DeArmond pickup is their percussive clarity and string to string balance, and this Coronado really exemplifies those tonal qualities. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Coronado plays as well as the day it left the factory, with fresh 11-50 strings, solid intonation, and comfortable action. The one-piece maple neck has a quintessential Fender medium C shaped profile that still retains its gloss nitro lacquer sheen. The profile stays fairly consistent in depth with modest shoulders, and there's faint flame figuring in the maple, particularly on the bass side of the profile. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard is bound and features pearl block inlay and original fretwire that has been leveled and dressed with only the faintest wear on frets 1-3 beneath the plain strings, and zero wear up the fretboard. The original nut is intact, measuring 1 5/8" in width, and on the headstock, the original "F" style tuning machines are present and still work as they should. The neck is very straight and plays effortlessly all the way to the last fret with no buzzing or dead spots, as well as a truss rod nut that's flush with the neck heel and has required little to no adjustment in the past 50 years. On the body, the chrome hardware shows no notable wear aside from some light patina on the bridge saddles and base. This bridge is also the less common version which was more expensive for Fender to produce, with carved ebony "feet" beneath the Jazzmaster-style bridge. The chrome pickup covers and trapeze tailpiece look almost new! In terms of date codes, the neck heel is dated to December of 1966, while the serial number on the original "F" neck plate actually is from a bit earlier in the year.Cosmetically, this is one of the finest original custom color nitro lacquer Fender finishes we've ever seen here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, with only the faintest yellowing of the clear coat. It's as bold and unfaded a Lake Placid Blue as you're likely to see, with only extremely faint lacquer checking on the body, and one small nickel sized spot central to the back that has greened a bit more than the rest of the finish. There is very faint wear in the pick path on the treble side of the body across the gold pickguard and adjacent to the three-way toggle switch, as well as a couple extremely minimal nicks and finish scratches on the back. This Coronado will satisfy collectors and serious players alike, and 100% original custom color examples in this condition do not surface often!A modern black tolex hardshell case is included.
