Up for sale, a 1968 Supro Croydon model S666 in exceptional, 100% original condition and in perfect working order. Produced only from 1967-68, the Croydon was offered alongside the otherwise identical Clermont model, with the stoptail design of the Croydon being its defining characteristic. Crafted in the USA by parent company Valco (who were also responsible for National, Airline, and other notable vintage brands), this Supro delivers thick, glassy, and powerful single coil tones through a pair of chrome topped, humbucker-sized pickups. With their gold foil stickers still affixed to the tops of the pickups, these single coils certainly are eye-catching, and the tone doesn't disappoint, accentuated by the attack of the maple used as the primary tone wood, and the rich character of the hollowbody construction. Very player-friendly with its 1 3/4" deep thin line body and weighing in at only 6lbs 8oz, this Supro has been professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and strung with 10-46 strings.The maple neck has a medium C shaped profile that borders on the more slender side of things, with consistent depth as you move up the fretboard, and a generous slab rosewood fretboard. The original frets are intact and virtually flawless, with perfectly rounded crowns. These frets are slender in width and play cleanly up the neck with no buzzing or dead spots. The truss rod nut is also flush with the neck heel and the neck is very straight. At the nut, the guitar measures 1 11/16" in width, and with a scale length of 24 3/4", this guitar will feel intuitive and familiar to Gibson players in particular, as Gibsons traditionally share both of these measurements. The headstock features the original Kluson Deluxe tuning machines with white buttons, and the fragile "Supro" raised plastic logo is mint and intact on the large "gumby" headstock.On the body, the electronics work as they should, with the two oversized single coil pickups coupled to a three-way pickup selector switch and individual Volume and Tone controls for each pickup. The original hardware is present as well, including the floating rosewood bridge, chrome tailpiece cover, DeArmond white reflector cap knobs, raised white pickguard, and tall baton switch tip.Cosmetically, this guitar is in stunning shape, with a rich and unfaded deep red nitro lacquer finish. The finish shows zero touchup or overspray, and there are only a few light finish scratches and nicks on the instrument as a whole.
