Up for sale, a 1994 Fender vintage reissue '72 Telecaster Custom model TC72 in excellent, honestly played condition and in perfect working order. Manufactured in Japan and intended only for the domestic Japanese market, this Telecaster is a faithful and very well crafted reissue, embodying everything that makes the Telecaster Custom model so versatile and fun to play. Currently discontinued and manufactured in Japan's famed Fujigen factory, this is a rare chance to own a fairly early Fender Japan Tele Custom! With a Wide Range humbucker in the neck position and a traditional Tele single coil at the bridge, this Tele has a very wide tonal spectrum, from thick, meaty humbucker tones in the neck position to chiming, twangy single coil tones at the bridge. Of course the middle position is truly a "best of both worlds setting," and the two pickups balance well both in terms of output and their respective tonal attributes. The ash body also adds a fullness and midrange forward quality to the tone that further enhances the detail and punch of the pickups. Weighing in at  8lbs 14oz, this guitar has a pleasing, crisp acoustic tone with solid sustain that translates well through the pickups. We've had this Tele professionally setup here at our shop, Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, and it's currently strung with 10-46 strings, and comfortable action. The one-piece maple neck has a well rounded medium C shaped profile that borders on the slimmer side of things, with modest roundness in the shoulders and a very solid feel without being too slender. The gloss finished maple fretboard boasts original, vintage style fretwire which shows notable wear on frets 1-4 beneath the plain strings and more faint wear on the treble side of the board until the octave. This honest playwear has also manifested itself in light sporadic wear down to the bare maple across the board and smooth, rounded fretboard edges, just like you'd expect on a vintage example! The scale length is the traditional 25 1/2", while the fretboard radius also matches vintage spec at 7 1/4", and the nut has a 1 5/8" width. On the headstock, the original Gotoh branded tuners turn very smoothly and hold pitch as they should. All of the electronics work well, with each pickup wired to independent Volume and Tone knobs, in addition to a three-way toggle pickup selector switch. There is moderate pitting and wear through the chrome on the edges of the bridge base, and the pickguard shows its fair share of light pick scratches in the pick path. Other wear of note includes a few small nicks near the input jack and rear strap button, as well as a few marks in the clear coat central to the back of the instrument. A secondary pickguard was also at one point installed on the bass side of the body to mirror the shape of the area near the knobs. As a result, there are a few tiny pickguard screw holes added on the bass side lower bout which have been professionally doweled and touched up (extremely hard to photograph or see with the naked eye, but worth mentioning).
This guitar has the well earned feel of a nicely worn in and honestly played instrument. It's equally comfortable to play and soulful to hear, and a true testament to the excellent quality of the early Fender Japan instruments!
