Up for your consideration is my '78 Super Axe in superb condition. Never gigged and in perfect working order. I have recently retired & will be relocating to a new home that does not give me the opportunity to maintain my personal music room or what has been lovingly referred to as, my "Gretsch Shrine".  Over the years I have strived to maintain what I consider to be one of the finest individual Gretsch collections that I am aware of.I'm certain that 99% of you are just lookers & that's great, I do it myself.  But to one of you, this is going to be an exceptional experience.  I am not looking to get the top dollar that it’s worth, I just want to see that it get's the home that it deserves at a fair price.  If it doesn't sell I guess I'll figure that fate just didn't want it to leave me. I assume that if you are looking you are fully aware of what this guitar is, its history, practicality & investment potential.  If you are looking for something to bang around on in your garage, get a Telecaster.  If you want a quality instrument that holds a place in history then you should seriously consider this.  I've been watching these for years now, you won't find a better one.
This is the '78 Gretsch Chet Atkins Super Axe. 24.75" scale. 1.72" nut width. 15 7/8" bottom bout. 1 5/16" deep. 10 lbs. The Super Axe was only made from '76-'81 and is very rare. This '78 is as sweet as they come. The chambered maple body is dense so you get the best of both worlds- you get the large chambered bodied deep tones with the maple articulation. Beautiful. In the body sits dual DeMarzio pickups. I have to say- it's rare to find a guitar that has a fat tone with the clarity and character this has. The bridge pickup has thickness with just the right amount of bite. The neck pickup is a sustain lovers dream- seemingly endless. Played on the clean channel of a tube amp, this Super Axe produces the quintessential 'bell like' tone. Adding some gain will blow you away, creating Les Paul overdrive tones on steroids if you want them. A truly versatile piece. These pickups run to the active preamp with an adjustable Phaser & Compressor. The Compressor here is very effective- on a clean amp it really squeezes your sound. On an overdrive setting it takes the already impressive sustain and actually elongates it - amazing. There is also an onboard adjustable Phaser allowing for some great efected tones. There is really enough versatility here to take you through any gig or session. The maple neck features a thin .81" thick (5th fret) C profile. Combine this with the 12" radius on the gorgeous ebony board and you've got a real player. The aesthetics are beautiful - trans Gretsch Orange finish showing the maple grain perfectly, multi-ply body binding, full neck/headstock binding, block inlays, raised 'Gretsch' pickguard, badass fine tuner bridge & the impossible to find special order factory saddle Bigsby. There's no way that you can find one sweeter than this. Also included is the original hardshell case with its timely vibrant lime green plush interior. This is your chance to get your hands on a truly special rarity - a '78 Gretsch Chet Atkins Super Axe that looks & plays as if it just came from the USA factory! This is a no reserve auction. Don't pass this by!
PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE... look all you want but only bid on this if you are committed.  I have sold several guitars in the past (check my feedbacks) & occasionally there's one clown who just screws it up for everyone else.  So, if you are a clown, find a circus.  If you are a serious guitarist, collector or looker, welcome to my auction. Although I cannot imagine why anyone would want to return this guitar, I will accept a return if you pay the shipping costs.  I can fully understand getting "caught" buying a guitar.  It's happened to me before. It's not worth losing a marriage over.  It will cost you the shipping though, way cheaper than a divorce. But please, don't gig it or mess it up & then expect a clean return.  If you do return it I want it back in the same condition that you got it. If this isn't the one for you, come back later.  The last one I will be selling is my '92 Crimson Flyer (yup, I've got one) & I'll be listing it when I have the time.  I hate to see any of them go but I'm getting a swimming pool in Florida instead.....
