We are proud to be a Les Paul Forum sponsor dealer. They don’t come around too often like this. This one is just covered in figure and has deep lush tiger stripe flames that look like fine laser points. The peaks and valleys are intense and its just dripping with tone. The flame is a peek a boo top and moves around like crazee and is very 3D. This bitch has it all! Here is the long awaited 2016 Gibson 59 Les Paul Collectors Choice #35 “The Gruhn Burst”. According to Gibson total production is not to exceed 50 pieces for the world based on the availability of the special highly figured flame maple tops. This guitar was made by Gibson Custom in Nashville Tn. and has all the new True Historic specs. Availability is very tight on these and under strict allocation and most shops didn’t even get one but we got one here at MMG. Covered in flames side to side and front to back weighing in at 8 pounds 12 ounces. This one just drips with tone like you never heard before and sounds oh sooo good it will raise the hair on the back of your neck.
This is a replica of the 59 Burst #9-0627 owned well known collector and friend Vic DaPra. This guitar takes us back in time and the back story of how Vic acquired it is rather amazing by todays standard. Vic was contacted by a salesman at Gruhn guitars in 1984 who knew that Vic was looking to buy an original Burst. He called Vic to tell him that an all original 59 Burst with a big flame top had just come into the store and offered up for sale. Vic had a desire to buy it and the salesman send him a Polaroid photo in the mail along with a note and a true replica copy of the photo and note are included.
The note sent to Vic dated 7/21/84 reads quote: “Vic enclosed is the photo of 1959 Les Paul Standard serial number 9 0627. This is as good as tops get, (wood wise). Headstock was broken off some 2 years ago and expertly repaired by John Theirman of American Luthiers Guild. Red finish on back is faded to redish mahogany. Top faded to amber. Guitar has very little wear, just a few dings on the front and back. Fingerboard, frets, and nut, look nearly untouched. Pickups, parts, ect very kosher. Head stock repair shows back lines in breakage are a but perfectly repaired and smoothly lacquered over. Even with break, a give away at $5000.00. Thanks For Your Biz, Sincerely, Dino. Inventory #011393 Price $5000.00.
The Following From The Gibson Web Site:In 1984, when Vic DaPra set out to acquire an original '59 Les Paul (ser# 9 0627), he didn't have the luxury of the internet. "I had to wait for Polaroid pictures to come through the mail. It felt like forever." Rarely does an original late '50s Gibson Les Paul make it to us with such clean lineage. The days of "closet" finds are quickly becoming the folklore of a bygone era. Unearthing one of the very few two-owner 1959 'Bursts with so much character in its top is incredible: this guitar is astounding, from the billowy, unending, multi-dimensional flame to the softly mellowed hue of its now caramel-colored burst. Gibson Custom is excited to offer a very limited number of "Gruhn 'Burst" Les Pauls, hand-crafted featuring our True Historic features. To bring you the specific tone and feel of Gruhn 'Burst, we've re-created its neck profile and top carve through digital analysis of the original and tone-matched its pickups with specially wound Custom Buckers. To capture the finite details of this very special Collector's Choice edition, the color and wear are hand-applied and based on in-depth study of the Gruhn 'Burst, with Vic's personal involvement in developing and approving the run.
The 2016 True Historic specs include the updated truss rod route with no tubing, finger board glued to the neck using hot hide glue, neck glued to the body using hot hide glue, top glued to the back using hot hide glue, Vintage Kluson Deluxe tuners, and True Historic Plastic’s. The is the most absolute authentic reissue that is as close to an original you will get. The guitar is in as new condition with COA (Certificate Of Authenticity) , all hang tags, and all factory paper work..
