Up for sale, an early 1960s Kay Pro series Thinline hollowbody electric guitar model 1993 in excellent condition and in perfect working order. This guitar boasts the same trio of "Speed Bump" pickups as the Speed Demon series of instruments. The top of the line Thinline instrument offered by Kay in the early '60s, the 1993 model boasts checkerboard binding and silver sparkle accents which set this Kay apart from the more common Speed Demons. This guitar is simply a joy to play, with glassy cleans and rich, cutting overdrive when played through your favorite tube amp. The Speed Bump pickup is one of the cooler sounding "off the beaten path" 1960s single coil designs, delivering chime and twang as well as warm, complex jazz tones with the neck pickup engaged. The four-way pickup selector rotary switch and individual Volume and Tone knobs for each pickup present a huge range of classic Kay tones. The fully hollow maple body has the benefit of both the low end fullness of its construction and the attack and brightness associated with maple as a tone wood. Professionally setup and strung with fresh strings here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Kay plays great, intonates well and is an excellent example of vintage Speed Bump tone! The neck has a chunky C profile that's just shy of "baseball bat" depth, with a 1 5/8" nut width that fills the palm comfortably and plays easily with consistent, low action. The original frets are intact with well rounded crowns and virtually no wear. The guitar plays cleanly up the neck with no buzzing or dead spots, and the neck is quite straight, utilizing the Kay Kanti-lever neck adjustment at the heel, a feature only seen on Kay's nicest models. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard has large pearl block inlays, with white binding as well.  On the headstock, the original Kluson Deluxe single line tuning machines are intact with original white buttons and these tuners still turn smoothly and work as intended. The stock metal raised Kay log is also present, along with the silver sparkle chevron accent piece. On the body, all of the electronics work as they should and all of the stock hardware is present including the adjustable rosewood bridge, trapeze tailpiece, silver sparkle pickguard and six ivory Romar knobs. While two of the Speed Bump pickups retain their original windings, the neck pickup has just been professionally rewound to original spec to ensure consistent output between the three single coils. Cosmetically, the guitar is in great shape, showing some nicks around the headstock edges and along the neck profile, as well as some modest cable "worming" on the back, where the black nitro lacquer reacted to being set atop an old plastic cable for decades. There is also light patina on the trapeze tailpiece, although the chrome on the pickup covers is surprisingly minty!
The original two-tone gray and blonde chipboard case is included.
