Up for sale, a 1965 Truetone K300 in 100% original, near mint condition and in perfect working order. Produced for the Western Auto chain's house brand "Truetone," this guitar was crafted by Kay in the USA and features a pair of Barney Kessel P-35 single coil pickups. These pickups were the top shelf single coils offered by the Kay company, and were purportedly manufactured by Gibson, with silvery Art Deco covers that earned this pickup the nickname "Kleenex Box." The tone is full, round, and detailed, with a dynamic and crisp top end, as well as thick, focused lows. Weighing in at a mere 6lbs 6oz, this Kay/Truetone is easy on the back and simply a ton of fun to play. We've had the guitar professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, and it currently sports low action and fresh 10-46 strings. The neck has a medium C profile with just the right amount of chunk and roundness and consistent depth as you move up the fretboard. The Brazilian rosewood fretboard features pearl dot inlay and the original slender fretwire is virtually flawless, with just a hint of wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-2. The scale length measures 25 1/2" and the nut is a full 1 11/16" in width. On the headstock, the guitar retains the original "Truetone" aluminum disc logo as well as the original open back tuners. These tuners work well with their original white lollipop buttons, and all have straight shafts aside from the low E gear which has a moderate bend but works as it should. The body features immaculate chrome hardware and minty plastic parts with individual on/off and tone switches for each pickup as well as Master Volume and Tone knobs. Under the pickguard, the wiring is original and clean with untouched solder joints and CTS pots that date to the 49th week of '65. The stock vibrato unit retains its original arm, and the vibrato has an extremely smooth and reliable response, jumping back to the original pitch with ease and perfect for surfy warbles.Bold and vibrant, the original nitro lacquer finish still has a glossy sheen with barely a scratch on it. Condition-wise, it's truly one of the nicest vintage guitars we've ever had in the shop, and a time capsule piece!
A vintage hardshell case is included.
