The first SG1000 models were produced shortly after the original SG2000 in 1976. This model was very similar to the SG2000 but it had a number of differences that set it apart from the 2000. The most obvious was the set neck rather than the through neck. This is easy to spot because if you look at the back of the guitar where the neck joins the body there is a noticeable step just infront of the strap button. The bridge was the same but it lacked the sustain plate underneath. The SG1000 also had a tone bypass circuit and coil taps which may have been fitted to the first ones from the beginning, I would need confirmation of that fact. 1977 saw the introduction of the left hand version of the SG1000 the SG1000L. Now this is where things start to get a bit confusing. In the US a SBG1000 could have the same specifications as a UK SG1000S, thinner body etc or the specifications of the original SG1000 depending in which year it was made.
