Here is a 1999 Mexican Classic series Hank Marvin signature model, Fender’s range of Mexican signature models features the likes of Jimmie, Vaughan, Robert Cray, Billy Corgan, Kenny Wayne Shepherd among others. There were two Strat players issued with red Mexican Classic series Stratocaster signature models in 1999/2000, these two were Chris Rea and Hank Marvin. Both guitars have been long since discontinued. Both models were intended for the UK market due to the player’s popularity being larger on UK shores. The Hank Marvin model was based on the UK’s first Stratocaster ordered by Cliff Richard for current chart toppers The Shadows; the guitar was top of the line featuring birds-eye maple neck, custom colour Fiesta Red and gold hardware. This is known as the Shadows guitar in Stratocaster collector’s circles. This Mexican edition from 1999 was part of a small run issued to the UK market through Fender’s UK distributor Arbiter. Some notes and specification about these guitars is as follows; Body manufactured with Poplar wood, unlike the alder classic 50’s range21 vintage frets with polyurethane vintage tint lacquer12” radius on the fretboard, unlike the 7.25” radius on the classic 50’s rangeFiesta red/Salmon pink colour as per Hank’s original modelE-Z mute tremolo bar, unfortunately this has been lost over the past 17 yearsSuper light weight guitar due to poplar body410 units allegedly produced in 1999Neck profile is a soft V, almost C shaped, it feels more 60’s than 50’s to me59’ vintage voiced pickups as specified by HankOverall, this is a great Stratocaster, I am personally not a fan of Hank’s but I respect his contribution to guitar playing and his influence on my favourite players. I also appreciate his specification on this guitar making it one that isn’t just a Strat, the guitar is basically a hot-rodded 50’s Stratocaster and plays beautifully following a full set up from myself. It has all the appointments of a 50’s Stratocaster, one piece maple neck, small headstock with spaghetti logo and Hank’s signature on the top. Single ply guard, standard Stratocaster controls with a 5-way switch. I am the author of the Fender Stratocaster book, so please be assured you’re buying a well selected and maintained Stratocaster from someone who genuinely knows and understands these guitars from inside out. Condition wise, this guitar is very clean, with only a few small marks which you can see in the photos. The original Fender gig bag was reportedly ripped and replaced with a more solid aftermarket model. The frets are in great condition with many decades left on them. Recently set up with Ernie Ball 10’s. Any questions, Please email. I can do a deal if guitar is collected, contact me about it first. I suspect that due the rarity of this guitar, it will increase in value over the years to come.
