This is Imperial's new Platinum Blonde, a hollow body Tele Custom with a single humbucker, flame maple top on a chambered mahogany body with multi-layer binding and all gold hardware. Designed as a jazz guitar for guys who want the Fender scale and feel but more of a traditional jazzy ES-175 sound, the Platinum Blonde turns out to be a great rock and blues guitar, with a fat singing tone when it's cranked up. Makes great rhythm guitar too. The neck profile comes from a classic '60's Tele with the coveted flatish "D" shape and combines that with medium jumbo frets and a modern flat radius rosewood fingerboard. It uses a Gibson style tunematic bridge but also has the strings going through the body like a Tele. The top is thinner than an F-hole Fender Tele or something like a Gibson 335 , so it's more acoustically responsive than either of those guitars. There is a center block so feedback is controllable even at high volumes. It's also the greatest sitting-around-playing-without-an-amp guitar ever. The tone overall is a bit like an ES-335 but with both a hollower more acoustic sound and more Fender twang. With flatwounds it sounds as jazzy as can be and with skinny strings and a lot of gain it sounds quite a lot like a hollow body Les Paul.I know I'm going to get this question so let me just say that the Platinum Blonde only comes in the single humbucker version you see here.Imperial Valley Platinum BlondeHollow body maple top Tele with F holes60's "D" profile maple neck with modern flat radius fingerboardAll gold hardwareTunematic bridge and strings through the bodyWilkinson bridge and humbucking pickup Sealed gold tunersFantastic toneWeighs only 5.5 lbsSorry, I don't have cases for these guitars yet. Of course, they will fit in any standard Tele case or gig bag. Here are some of the comments received at Imperial Valley Guitars about the Platinum Blondes.
Well, my friend, you have made the guitar I've wanted all my life. I never expected to be able to have one without getting somebody to build it for me for piles of cash, but you did it, so I guess I'm not the only one!I would not change one single thing on this guitar. Everything from the fret size to the knob placement to the strings through the body to the tunematic bridge is 100% exactly how I have spec'd out my dream guitar in my mind. I can't thank you enough.Doods, a 60's golden era neck profile with a wide radius fingerboard? I don't know what to say. This is the perfect neck.I haven't played seriously for years, but I can't put this guitar down. I know it's supposed to be a jazz guitar, but this thing absolutely sings at high volume. I just came from a gig where we played that Gary Moore tune and it sounded SO FFFFFFFF GOOD. A guy was actually trying to buy the guitar from me while I was on stage! P.S. Righteous set up job, too.
