Description

What a stunner! Drop-dead gorgeous all Koa ukulele made in Hawaii by Sam Chang. Sam built ukuleles for Harold Summers and his brother who taught music to tourists at the various hotels in Hawaii. I consider Chang the most sophisticated Hawaiian builder. The workmanship, design, fretwork and wood choice is the closest to Martin quality you will find in a vintage Hawaiian-made ukulele. This particular soprano ukulele is one of the higher styles, roughly equivalent to a Style 3 Martin. The main feature is the purfling stripe down the center of the fingerboard. Mutli-ply binding and rosette, amazing flamed Koa wood, and original patent peg tuners. All topped off with the Hawaii decal and "Tabu" stamp on the back of the headstock. Even the neck is flamed. When I got this ukulele, a small piece of wood had chipped out of the back, at the edge of the lower bout. My luthier skillfully and seamlessly patched in a small matching piece of koa, about the size of your thumbprint, to fill the defect. No other repairs. Plays and sounds great, and includes the vintage case as shown.
