Up for sale, a 1996 Fender Custom Shop 1960 reissue Stratocaster in exceptional condition and in perfect working order. #11 in a special run of 30 instruments, this Strat has been extremely well cared for over the past two decades and comes complete with a Fender-branded G&G tweed hardshell case. Visually striking with factory gold hardware and a custom color Ice Blue Metallic finish with matching headstock, this Strat embodies everything we love about this era of Custom Shop construction, with incredible tone woods, exceptional attention to detail, and much more limited production. All of the ingredients of a great Strat are present with this model, including a highly figured quartersawn maple neck, slab rosewood fretboard, black bobbin Custom Shop pickups, and a resonant alder body. There's plenty of versatility and tonal range on the five-way pickup selector switch too, with a bridge pickup that chimes and sparkles, 2 and 4 positions that have quintessential Strat quack and cut, and a neck pickup that is warm and detailed, perfect for lead work with rich harmonic content. This guitar weighs in at a comfortable 8lbs 2oz, with a sweet, smooth sounding acoustic tone that translates well through the pickups. Here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, we've dialed in this Strat with ideal action, solid intonation, and 10-46 strings. The neck has a medium C profile with just enough depth and roundness at the nut to feel substantial, and notably more girth in the higher registers of the fretboard. The maple shows what's most accurately described as burled figuring, with a confluence of birdseye, quilt, and flame that's truly astounding, accented by a silky smooth gloss nitro lacquer finish. The thick Indian rosewood slab fretboard has a vintage 7 1/4" radius, with original frets that have perfectly rounded crowns and vintage width. The frets show the faintest wear beneath the G and B strings on frets 1-3, with virtually no wear up the neck and no buzzing or dead spots. The action is low and comfortable, the truss rod is responsive, and the fretboard edges are rolled for a very comfortable, worn in feel. The factory nut measures 1 11/16" in width, or what would have been known as the "C" width in '60, allowing for ideal spacing for comfortable chording and even fingerstyle work. The headstock boasts a set of original Kluson-style tuners with immaculate gold plating and an era-correct Stratocaster waterslide decal. Of course the most striking aspect of the headstock is the Ice Blue nitro lacquer that perfectly matches the body and sets this Strat apart from the majority of Fender's output. All of the electronics work as they should, with 100% original factory wiring, full size CTS pots, and a trio of Custom Shop black bobbin pickups with staggered alnico magnets. The aged white plastic parts and stock mint green pickguard are in great shape, contrasting nicely with the custom color finish. The gold plated bridge has only the lightest surface patina on the saddles, and the stock gold screws, vibrato arm, input jack plate, and neck plate noting the "#11 of 30" extremely limited edition of this model are all present. The Ice Blue Metallic finish is very representative of the actual vintage color, with just enough saturation to not appear too silvery while still being vibrant. Cosmetically, the guitar is nearly flawless, with only one tiny finish chip on the back lower bout edge. Suffice it to say, this guitar is a clean and stunning example from one of the most revered eras of Custom Shop production.A new Fender-labeled G&G tweed hardshell case is included with plush red interior. As the original COA was not present when we received the guitar at our shop, we have a request in with Fender for a replacement.
