Modified 1967 Gretsch 6186 ClipperI took this guitar in on a trade and now I'm ready to move on and try something different. I'm not a vintage guitar nor a Gretsch expert, but, I'll try to describe this guitar to the best of my ability. This appears to be a Gretsch 6186 Clipper from 1967 that's been modified for functionality and tone. This guitar was in the stable of instruments of a gigging pro and has seen it's share of bar gigs. The headstock is stamped "Made in USA" and bares serial number 671119. Overall, this old girl shows a bit a wear with a fair amount of dings, chips, scratches and lacquer finish checking. There's also some light buckle wear on the back. The neck joint appears to be stable. You can see where there's some minor separation but it's nothing severe. The action is low and smooth down the neck and the guitar plays great with a light, buttery touch. The frets are in good shape and don't show a heavy amount of wear, only some small denting. I'm not sure if they're the original frets or not. The floating bridge has been pinned and has a Tune-o-matic style bridge on it so there should be no issues with movement or intonation. I believe the Bigsby vibrato is a replacement as I think the original bridge was a trapeze style unit. The tuners have been replaced with Kluson style units. The originals will come with the guitar. The hold tune OK but will slip a bit if you get to wanking on the Bigsby too much. Pickups are Dearmond / Dynasonic replacements and are strong. The case is a non-original modern replacement. Total guitar weight is 6.8 lbs. The neck profile is a medium oval shaped "C" profile and is very fast and comfortable. Playability is great with low, light action and nice responsiveness. Acoustically, this guitar is warm, smooth and very resonant. The highs are nice and mellow and the mids are warm. The pickups sound fantastic. The bridge pickup sounds like a Telecaster with a supercharger strapped on, the middle position is woody and jangly, the neck pickup position is thick, fat and jazzy. Overall, this is a very versatile instrument with a lot of magic in it.Please ask all questions prior to purchase as I cannot accept returns. Paypal only, please.
