Up for sale, a 1967 Fender Telecaster in excellent condition and in perfect working order. With a body-only nitro lacquer refinish in custom color Sherwood Green and a rare custom order slab maple fretboard (a feature available from 1960-67 but not often seen), this Tele is visually striking and tonally pleasing, covering all the essential bases for twang, sparkle, and chime. At only 7lbs 1oz, this ash-bodied Tele is light and robust sounding, with the punch and midrange character associated with ash, and the snap and articulation that comes with a maple fretboard. The bridge pickup is biting and clear, with complex harmonics and plenty of twang on tap without being too harsh. Switching to both pickups is a true "best of both worlds" scenario, with a chiming and percussive sound that's great for rhythm work. The neck pickup is smooth and round, and a perfect choice for lead work, sounding full and nuanced. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Tele has been dialed in for optimal action and intonation with fresh 11-50 strings. The maple neck features the original nitro lacquer finish which has ambered a bit over the decades, highlighting the prominent burled figuring across the entire profile. The C shaped profile is quite round and full, with generous shoulders and a bit more depth as you move up the fretboard. As a special order, the one-piece neck below the slab fretboard is actually notched for fret tangs, yet the side dots sit purposefully lower than normal to accommodate this uncommon fretboard and the board is undoubtedly original. The stock fretwire is in excellent shape, showing moderate wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-4, and lighter flattening of the crowns on the treble side of the board until roughly the octave. The guitar plays cleanly in all registers and the frets have plenty of height. At the nut the neck measures 1 5/8" in width, and the nut is a modern replacement cut to match the original 7 1/4" fretboard radius. On the headstock, the original Fender "F" tuners are intact, turn smoothly, and hold pitch as they should. The electronics consist of the original black bobbin neck pickup and a bridge pickup that is slightly later, dating to 1971 with an early four digit date stamp and darker gray bobbin. The neck pickup has been professionally rewound to vintage spec, and while the bridge pickup retains its original windings, it does feature a pair of vintage cloth covered leads to match spec for '67 and look consistent with the rest of the wiring. Both CTS pots date to the 42nd week of 1966, matching closely with the date on the neck plate which is in the early 200,000 range and correct for later in '67. The neck heel is stamped September, 1967 and rounds out the essential date codes. The hardware includes the original bridge, which is one of the early patent number versions without knurled saddles. The control plate and knobs are also stock, as is the three-ply white pickguard. On the body, the Sherwood Green finish is expertly done and all original body contours were maintained in the refinishing process. There is a small repaired crack at the treble side edge of the neck pocket which has been professionally addressed and touched up with similarly shaded Sherwood Green lacquer. Only visible in the neck pocket, the wide and prominent grain of the ash can clearly be seen, along with some text noting the color of the refinish. Cosmetically, the guitar is in great shape, with a couple small dings through the finish on the treble side back edge of the body along with a few small nicks on the back of the body and chips around the string ferrules (presumably from when they were removed prior to the refinish). Other light wear includes a few nicks along the headstock edges and faint pick wear in the pick path, mostly on the pickguard itself. The original black tolex hardshell case with a small raised Fender logo on the exterior is included and in excellent shape, with working latches and clean leather ends. As an added (and very valuable) bonus, an unopened vintage Fender polish cloth is also included.
