Up for sale, a 1960 Kay Value Leader in exceptional condition and in good working order. 100% original aside from a new strap button, this classic Kay model has been very well cared for, with a fully hollow maple body and clear, surprisingly powerful acoustic tone. At only 5lbs 2oz, this Kay is extremely easy on the back, and the two "pancake" single coil pickups have great percussive clarity. For sparkle and hollow twang, these pickups excel, while the low end has great warmth and bloom as well. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Kay is ready for stage and studio use. The maple neck has a round and chunky C shaped profile, with original brass fretwire and large red pearloid dots on the maple fretboard. The original frets are in excellent shape, playing cleanly up the neck and only showing light, uniform wear on frets 1-3. At only 24 1/2", the scale length is very manageable, and the cutaway allows easy access to all 18 frets. The nut measures just over 1 11/16" in width and the strings are ideally spaced for comfortable chording and even fingerstyle playing if desired. The headstock features the original Kay sticker as well as the stock open back tuning machines, which hold pitch as they should. On the body, the original electronics are untouched, with CentraLab pots that date to early '60, original solder joints, and a three-way rotary pickup selector for the two chrome topped single coils. The trapezoidal aluminum pickguard has a faint checkerboard pattern, and all of the small "V" and "T" knobs are present. Other original hardware includes the adjustable floating maple bridge and trapeze tailpiece.Cosmetically, this vintage Kay is remarkably clean, with a vibrant original nitro lacquer sunburst finish and only a few minor scuffs and finish scratches on the body as a whole. There's a bit of light wear into the fretboard in the first position as well as a few small nicks around the headstock edges and light surface patina on the aluminum pickguard.A padded gigbag is included (not pictured).
