I purchased the guitar from Marc Ford (Black Crowes, Ben Harper, Booker T, Neptune Blues). He told me that this guitar was given to him by Ben Harper years ago.
Up for bid ---> Sept. 16 2003 1959 Relic Fender Custom Shop Esquire (converted to a Tele). It can be converted back to it's original Esquire form pretty easily. The Esquires were routed for a neck pup already. I've included the original Esquire guard too. The added neck pup is a DiMarzio Twang King. The bridge and everything else is all original. Aside from the occasional crackle from the jack when fiddled with, everything else works as it should.
Serial is RXXXXX. Nice and fast and comfy maple neck. I'd call it maybe a mid-60s oval feel. I don't know if it's a one piece body or not. Let me know if there's a way to tell. The top-loading bridge (strings through bridge not body) contributes to the amazing playability and feel of this guitar IMO. Strings feel extremely spongy and bouncy. Tasty blues bends steel licks fly effortlessly out of this thing (think Jim Campilongo). The blonde relic nitro finish is one of the better that I've seen to boot. Lots of cool realistic spider web crackling. Some honest wear and tear mixed in as well. It's a very cool 59 Tele. Original case included. One latch doesn't work. It has some travel wear and stickers from Marc I assume (see pics).I really can't say enough about this guitar. It's got that Tele/Esquire tone you're looking for. Plus, it's got some history. Hate to see it go, but...bills ; ) Good luck.
