For many years JTL set the French standard for high-quality trade instruments. Many important French violin makers at some point either worked for this company, or served on its directorship. Its instruments are greatly respected, not only for the excellent materials used in their production, but also for the fine workmanship displayed in the majority of their output. A typical violin of Superior Quality produced by the Thibouville-Lamy workshops after Nicolo Amati 1676. The choice of woods is excellent, with a top made of two parts of spruce of very regular grain lines, a back made of two pieces of flamed maple, the curl descending from the center joint. The ribs are of the same wood. The neck and head are made of flamed maple. The pattern is exquisite, and the Amati f holed have been nicely executed. The purfling is neatly done and regular. The head shows a black chamfer in the french style. The varnish, of a brown-orange color on a golden ground, is entirely original and in a beautiful condition. This violin is a beautiful example of JTL's best work Workmanship throughout is tidy, conforming to the standards of good French lutherie The violin is in near mint condition, without any crack or repair, On the inside back can be found the original label of the JTL workshop, "Copie de Nicolaus Amatius Cremoniea Hieroni V" The strong, radiant sound of this typical J.T.L.-violin is brilliant, with a clear and dark tone, it is an excellent addition for any violinist from Concert or SoloistThe violin is set up and in playing condition with a new bridge and sound post, original ebony pegs, tailpiece, chin rest and Thomastik Dominant Strings.
