A few words from tube amp designer Gerald Weber...I was the first one to reissue a 5E3 Tweed Deluxe over 25 years ago. I have made thousands of them and serviced probably as many. Over the years I was able to determine the performance issues of the original and how to correct it. The originals all had output transformers wound with too small of wire. I realized this when I was noticing 5 or 10 original 5E3s coming in for service every month and every one had a blown output transformer. So I custom wound mine with slightly thicker wire, which kept it cool enough not to burn up. Neil Young, the guy that made the 5E3 Deluxe famous, has replaced the burned up output transformers in all three of his original 5E3's with my superior KENDRICK transformers.
There are horrific lead dress and grounding issues in the original 5E3 Tweed Deluxe. About 1 in 10 original amps will develop an instability, sometimes intermittant,  that makes the amp sound like the speaker is blown when you hit a low E string. It was caused by a phantom circuit (parasitic oscillation) that took me months to locate this and correct the lead dress so that the problem will never occur in my amps. Other 5E3 clones do not address this serious issue.
Originals had fishpaper component boards which sometimes become conductive, ruining the tone, even though all voltages seems to check as being right. I make my component boards out of Garolite (Epoxy Glass Resin) which will not become conductive, will not absorb moisture, and is a perfect insulator (as used by the military). Originals lacked reverb. I made this one with my on-board 3-knob reverb which has the same controls as the 6G15 stand-alone reverb, but it is built in. Every time we have ever sent an amp for magazine review with this module, the reviewers agreed it was/is the best sounding tube/spring/transformer driven reverb they have ever heard. I noticed the wood for the cabinet made a huge difference in tone, so I make mine with antique northern white pine, which is super lightweight and super resonant. There is a noticeable difference between the antique wood and Home Depot/Lowe's/Grocery store pine that everyone else uses. The Kendrick blackframe 12"speaker is custom made. The porcelain ceramic sockets are better than original. In fact, you will not find a better made or better sounding 5E3 circuit anywhere. We have studied and built this circuit for over 25 years and we know everything that is good and everything that is bad. We only changed the stuff that was bad, in other words the design flaws that Fender didn't have the advantage of 58 years of hindsight. And best of all, a new Kendrick 2112 combo amp has an extra 58 years of life in it because it is brand spanking new.
Relicked lacquered tweed looks cool and would fool the most astute collector. Not that I want anyone to be fooled, I just want to point out the painstaking attention to detail that went into this fine combo amp. We even have our own KENDRICK custom-made filter caps and KENDRICK custom made hook-up wire.
