This was a custom order - a "custom shop" guitar before the notion of a custom shop existed. From the time when you could call Gibson up, tell them your wildest guitar fantasies and 6 months later have something amazing like this arrive at your local music store. The Gibson Les Paul Special is an iconic guitar - used by many rock legends, and the Gibson electric Tenor guitar is usually found in hollowbody form. This is a great and very unique marriage of the two... solid body rock combined with the suburb elegance and rarity of a Gibson Tenor instrument. Gibson really had there best-of-the-best years in the late 1950's.
The level of craftsmanship is unparalleled and with the Beatles still in grammar school, the "guitar boom" of the mid 60's had not driven demand above quality control standards... 1957 brought the introduction of the PAF Les Paul Standard that now sells for BIG bucks
This guitar was made by those same hands with the same woods off the same pallets... just amazing!
