Up for sale, a 1993 Fender Jazzmaster '62 reissue in Ocean Turquoise with matching headstock! This very rare and likely custom order early Fender Japan Jazzmaster was crafted in the famed Fujigen factory and features key upgrades including American Vintage pickups, a USA Fender Offset Vibrato, and a combination of a mint green pickguard and aged white covers/knobs for a decidedly vintage look. Easily one of the best playing and most eye-catching Jazzmasters we've ever had in the shop, this guitar simply feels right and has a strong acoustic voice which translates well through the pickups. For twang and bite with a sweetness and depth not found on any other Fender single coil, the Jazzmaster is hard to beat! The bridge pickup chimes with the best, while the neck position single coil has plenty of girth and warmth, thickening up even more when you engage the Rhythm Circuit on the guitar's lower horn (perfect for adding punch and body to your favorite fuzz pedal or low wattage tube amp). Well balanced on a strap, the guitar weighs in at 7lbs 14oz. Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Jazzmaster is freshly restrung with 11-50 roundwound strings and dialed in for low action and accurate intonation. The maple neck has a gloss finish on the profile, with a fairly slender C shape that has gently sloping shoulders and fairly consistent depth as you move into the higher registers of the fretboard. Particularly notable on this profile is the deep figuring and flame that extends from the heel all the way across the back of the headstock, and it's no accident that a rare Jazzmaster from this era received a figured neck. The slab rosewood fretboard features a 7 1/4" radius and slender vintage style fretwire which shows notable wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3 and lighter flattening of the crowns beneath those same strings until roughly fret 9. The instrument plays cleanly up the neck with no buzzing or dead spots, and the frets have plenty of life left. At the nut, the guitar measures just a hair under 1 11/16" in width. The headstock matches the body with a deep blue/green metallic Ocean Turquoise finish, aging a bit more blue than the rest of the body and retaining a clean Jazzmaster logo. The stock Kluson-style tuning machines are intact as well and turn very smoothly. All of the electronics work as they should, with the aforementioned upgrade USA Jazzmaster pickups which feature black bobbins and cloth wire. The mint pickguard is a subtle upgrade that highlights the custom color body, with USA aged pickup covers and knobs for a consistent look that truly evokes a Pre-CBS Jazzmaster. The vibrato tailpiece is also a USA-made upgrade that has a very responsive spring and a matching arm that stays firmly put in its collet.Cosmetically, this guitar is in excellent shape overall, with a few finish chips on the treble side lower bout of the body along with some minor splits on the finish along the edge of the bass side body horn as seen in the photos (purely aesthetic but worth noting). The Ocean Turquoise finish has turned almost to Sherwood Green on the body, and the clear coat has yellowed considerably, although the original unaged color can still be seen on the edges of the neck pocket. There is also faint buckle rash on the back and a couple extremely light outlines of stickers which have subsequently been removed. In the neck pocket, the JM66 model name can be seen with a hand-written order number on the neck heel that matches the number stamped in the pocket. The neck heel is also hand dated to November of 1993, which matches the "M" prefix "Made in Japan" serial number.
A Fender gigbag is included.
