Fender Stratocaster HSS 2006 S-1 switching       Here is a beautiful 2006 Fender Stratocaster HSS in three-tone sunburst with maple neck, before I continue, I’d like to mention that this guitar is in brand new condition, as in you are looking at a guitar that has lived in its case for the past 10 years. Zero fret wear, zero marks on the body and a wonderful set up, not to mention the tremolo arm hole still has the original sticker in place. This really is an NOS guitar. Back in 2000, Fender decided to revamp their American Standard range, this meant that, (from the top down) the headstock now incorporated staggered machine-heads to eliminate the need for the second string tree, the ‘original contour body’ decal was added to the tip of the head to hark back to the glory days. The neck was also changed, still incorporating the 9.5” modern radius for bigger bends, the neck also features rolled edges which makes for a very comfortable playing experience. The frets on this guitar are as standard, medium jumbo, again, working very well with the modern radius.  The body shape was also changed for more vintage contouring yet features a HSH rout under the guard, again, modern player in mind. Schaller strap-lock ready buttons are also added to these guitars. I would say that this guitar is 2 piece alder, nice and resonant also. Electrics wise, this guitar is one of the lucky ones that managed to be assembled with Fender’s innovative and versatile S-1 switching, a full detailed explanation of the tonal variations in this switching system is as follows, (from 2006) All electrics mounted on standard issue parchment pickguard with parchments plastics. On the , the S-1 switch functions quite differently than it does on Telecaster models, adding five more pickup combinations to the five already offered by standard Stratocaster wiring. With 10 total pickup wiring options then, S-1-equipped American HSS Standard Stratocasters offer enormous tonal versatility. When not in use, the S-1 switch doesn’t affect standard Stratocaster wiring, which is: Position one: bridge pickup only Position two: bridge and middle pickups wired in parallel Position three: middle pickup only Position four: middle and neck pickups wired in parallel Position five: neck pickup only The S-1 switch offers five additional pickup wiring options when engaged: Position one: all three pickups wired in series Position two: bridge and middle pickups wired in series Position three: middle and neck pickups wired in series Position four: bridge and neck pickups wired out of phase, with a special tone capacitor Position five: bridge and middle pickups wired in series and out of phase, in parallel with neck pickup   The S-1 Switching is a great addition to Humbucker-equipped Strats as it adds more tonal variation than any other.  The bridge is the American Standard 2-point fulcrum model with ‘powdered’ steel saddles, a firm favourite of Mr. Jeff Beck. The pickups in this guitar are Fender Tex-Mex single coils with a Diamondback humbucker in the bridge. This is a great contrast tonally making it a highly versatile electric guitar and also only available with S-1 switching between the years 2003-2007. The guitar is currently set up beautifully with 10 gauge Ernie Ball strings and plays and sounds wonderful. Not a guitar for the Stratocaster purist but definitely one for a modern player that wants a Stratocaster with more meat in the electrics and modern appointments. I take a lot of care over guitars in my possession and make sure that they are gig-ready. I have studied Stratocasters for 25 years and have a book published on them, So, please be assured you’re buying a solid Stratocaster from someone that genuinely knows what they’re talking about. I inspect every guitar I find with a fine tooth comb to ensure that only good ones pass through my hands; I don’t sell anything that I wouldn’t be comfortable with gigging or just owning. This one, does actually pain me to sell as it is a very fine example, alas, I’d have a house full of Stratocasters if I kept all of them. Comes complete with moulded Fender case (mint also) tremolo arm, woven strap, paperwork and tags with matching serial numbers. It’s ready to hit the stage and cover all types of music you can push through it. Preferably, I’d like to meet, have a brew and deal away from here, so drop me an email and we may be able to sort something. If not, I can ship insured. Any questions; please email. Good luck.
