Up for sale, a 2007 Fender Custom Shop '62 Jaguar Relic in like new, mint condition and in perfect working order. This guitar is a rare Custom Shop one-off with heavy factory distressing of the finish and hardware, for a look that approximates the feel and appearance of the genuine vintage article, with the quality and consistency that only Fender's Custom Shop can offer. This Jaguar comes complete with unopened case candy, as well as the COA, hangtags, and G&G hardshell case. It's also worth noting that while the certificate of authenticity notes this guitar as a "61 Jaguar Relic," the model wasn't introduced until 1962, and our listing reflects this fact.Tonally, there's plenty to love about this Jag, with the sinewy snap and twang for which the model is known, as well as a sweet midrange, and focused bass response. Acoustically resonant and weighing 8lbs 10oz, the guitar delivers a very clear and balanced unplugged tone that translates well through the stock single coil pickups. The high pass filter (affectionately known as the strangle switch) allows even more tic-tac top end to come through, and conversely, the Rhythm Circuit thickens up the sound of the neck pickup significantly without losing definition. The Rhythm circuit is great for adding body and fullness to your favorite fuzz pedal or overdriven tube amp, with individual Volume and Tone roller knobs to further tailor this unique and oft overlooked part of the Jaguar sound! Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar, this Custom Shop one-off Jaguar has fresh 11-50 strings, and low, comfortable action.
The neck profile is a quintessential medium C shape, with a finish that has been worn down to the bare maple as part of the factory relic process for a silky smooth feel on the palm. The Indian rosewood slab fretboard adheres to vintage spec, with a 7 1/4" fretboard radius, and vintage-style fretwire that shows virtually no wear, with well rounded fret crowns and no buzzing or dead spots. The nut has a traditional 1 5/8" width that's ideal for quick lead lines and comfortable chording. On the headstock, a set of original aged Kluson-style Gotoh tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch as they should. The headstock is also complete with an era-correct "Fender Jaguar" waterslide decal on the face, and the "Custom Shop" logo on the back. All of the electronics work as they should and are untouched since this guitar left the Fender factory. The vibrato unit works smoothly for quick warbles and deeper dives, and screw and retainer for the original vibrato spring have recently been replaced, as the Fender factory aging unfortunately corroded the original tension adjustment screw. The vibrato is now dialed in to perfection and works great! In a similar fashion, the aging process on the hardware has resulted in limited motion of some of the adjustment screws on the bridge, so the guitar will ship with a brand new Fender bridge installed, and the original relic'd piece of hardware will be included as well to ensure completeness, originality, and most importantly, functionality and proper intonation!
While it's always hard to judge the cosmetic condition of a heavy relic (balancing player wear vs. factory aging), suffice it to say that this Jaguar is near mint, and has barely been played since new. The factory aging of this relic highlights wear patterns found on genuine Pre-CBS Jaguars, with wear through the finish where the forearm crosses the body, patina on the hardware, and various small nicks and dings to give the instrument a worn in and well loved appearance.
The original black G&G hardhsell case with plush gold interior is included, as well as the original COA, hangtags, unopened case candy, polish cloth, and strap.***We are dealers for the Mastery M1 bridge, Offset Vibrato, and Lollar Jaguar pickups, any or all of which can be installed prior to shipment for an additional charge***
