Hey everybody! Up for sale is my trusted and beloved Dean USA made lost 100 ML. I'm moving across the country and need to generate income to make the move happen. In case you're wondering why I would ever sell this beast! Thank you so much for looking. The history of Dean says that when Dean Z. first started in on production he started with serial number 100 on the shop floor. I never found out why, but my guess has always been that he wanted to make it look like he was further along than he was. Anyway, after owning the company that started officially in 77' for about two decades he sold it in the 90's to Tropical guitars. They did some weird but kind of cool stuff. Now today people are finally realizing how badass these old deans are. Dean Z. was pretty frank about the fact that Gibson, in his opinion at the time, had really gone down hill and let their customers down. He wanted to offer a high end guitar with a unique feel, mahogany body's with rosewood and ebony finger boards, Dimarzio super distortions pickups, and big headstock to help enhance vibration, sustain, string energy transfer from the headstock through the neck, and make them look really really cool. Well, he nailed it. So fast forward to 2000. Dean Z. is now once again at the helm of Dean guitars. One of the first things he wanted to do was use the old serial numbers that he left blank. There are only 100 V's, 100 Z's, and 100 ML's that were "reintroduced". They are all built to spec of the oldest and earliest deans. I've owned several Korean, USA, and vintage Deans at this point. This is the only "new" Dean I've ever kept along with my vintage deans.  As far as the specs go, what exactly makes it like the old ones? It is still of course in function and looks an ML. The main features that set it apart are five things. The pickups to be one. Double creme bobbin Dimarzio super distortions. They were introduced like that when Dean guitars first came out. Larry Dimarzio still holds the patent on dual creme pickups and if you ever see another pickup maker offering them they probably had to pay him money! Until of course they came out with the Korean 35th anniversary guitars these were the only ones with this pickup configuration. The other is the "v" shaped tail piece. It's solid brass like the old deans. Today's are chrome. This one is clear coated brass which is why it still holds its shine and isn't tarnished. Next are the side dots which are red. It's something that the company did very early on and switched to black side dots at some point. I'm not sure when. This guitar had the red ones which pays homage to the very first ones. I have an 81' ML with black side dots. If you looked at the pics of the headstock and thought to yourself "it looks a little big" you are correct. It is a series one headstock. Most of the vintage deans and reissues we love so much have the slightly smaller series two headstock. History says that series one head stocks were only a thing in 77' and 78'. The now famous 79' deans feature a series two headstock. And lastly, this is the only production non special order Dean I know of that features a nitro cellulose paint finish. I use Gibson pump polish on it to keep it from clouding up and keeping the neck fast. Works wonders.  Mentioning the nitro finish is a nice segway into the over all condition of this guitar. As far as performance goes, it is amazing. The fret job is flawless, the feel, the binding, the hardware and the playability are all the best of the best. There's nothing to really complain about on this guitar in terms of playability. It the most transparent guitar I've ever owned or played. Hard passages seem easier on it. I really mean that. It lives in a constant sweet spot and is an absolute joy. Am I trying to sell you one of the best guitars you will ever play? Absolutely. The problem anyone might have is the cosmetic condition. When I bought it it came to me with finish checking. I didn't care, I had wanted one of these for years and finally found one and went for it. It worked out great for me. I even went on to find two more. A black one and a Brazilian burst one. I had all three colors. Both of the other two were higher number (78 and 96) and were way cleaner in appearance. They didn't last though as this one played better by far than the other two. One of my favorite things was handing this to friends of mine who were making fun of it because of its shape only to have them hold onto it the whole time we were hanging out and talking about how munched they liked it. My favorite because that's how I ended up buying my first Dean. Pointed, laughed, played it, walked out with it that day. So it has finish checks, it also had pieces of the finish gone down to the wood, and chips in the clear coat. I've tried my best to photograph everything and think I have succeeded. I'm happy to send more pics upon request as I am limited by eBay to only 12 in an auction. They're rare guitar to begin with. This one is a good one even among its lost 100 peers. You will not be disappointed if this guitar shows up at your house. Any other questions please ask! I'm always happy to talk about my favorite guitars.  Oh, one final though. I haven't weighed it, but it is deceptively light despite its size. If it's important to you I can make time to run it over to fedex and have them weigh it for me. Thank you so much if you read this far. Good luck!
