1965 Fender Blackface Super Reverb - wonderful amp! Here’s a fabulous 1965 Super Reverb. I’m calling this one “Very Good” condition because of its condition as a 51 year survivor, having clearly been played a lot but not moved around much, and the degree to which it’s been cared for. The cabinet and Tolex covering are simply amazing after half a century. Panels show a few small nicks and things, but are overall very good shape. The grill cloth has only one minor little snag. Freshly serviced, the amp is clean and sounds freakin’ fantastic. No dirty pots, excessive hum or buzzing. Serial 12732 dates it to Dec. 1965.
I bought this one in 2011 from a local music store. In July, 2011, it was serviced by the best known pro amp tech around – THE guy for tube amp service. He put in brand new Groove Tubes all the way across including a matched 6L6 power tube duet and did a couple of necessary safety mods – hi voltage filter caps and a 3-wire AC power cable were replaced. It’s now quieter and you won’t light up like a sparkler if you touch you lips to the mic. The charge was $443.15. This amp is now good to go, in top notch electrical shape, dependable and ready to roll. All other aspects of this amp are 100% original as far as I can tell, including the speakers (Fender ‘Special Design,’ pretty sure they’re Jensens).
This amp has been parked in my instrument vault since I brought it home. I’ve played it - seriously - about an hour. It was so cool and in such good shape I had to have it. Now I’ve decided to part with most of my guitars and amps due to retirement – I don’t want my wife to have to deal with them if I croak. So, buy this amp and you’ll have an amazingly cool, great sounding amp; freshly serviced and virtually no time on the tubes – and you won’t have to spend $400 or $500 on servicing. Amp also has a brand new vinyl cover and its original footswitch.
