I think most will agree these Pre CBS Fender Guitars only go up in value each year. If you bought a new custom shop fender it would be worth less the than you paid after purchase. This 1963 Custom order, has only gone up appreciated in value each successive year. If you were to part this out (which would ruin it's value) - You could reasonably pay $4.5K for the '57 Mary Kay gold hardware, for custom ordered maple cap neck with '63 body and case, $7K, and for the matching '63 pots, pickups, switch, original green guard, knobs and pickup covers $6K, , for a total of $17.5K. Since posting this auction I recently spoke with a close relative who worked in the corporate office of Fender in the 70’s. He stated that there were 3 or more separate departments involved in a custom order guitar. The custom shop was totally separate and would get and order and draw the neck already made from a separate department. These maple cap necks were a special order and made in batches, the bodies were already made and drawn from a 3rd department and the gold hardware was added for the customer in the Custom Shop and finally all was assembled in the Custom Shop. "So when a guitar was custom ordered, they would get the body and then get a neck and whatever hardware was asked for and put the guitar together. So a 62 neck on a 63 body is easily feasible, in fact it makes sense based on the way production works. The only thing that would be done in a special order is a custom paint job, if asked for. Imagine what a custom color pre CBS Stratocaster would be with original factory order gold plated hardware and special ordered fender maple cap fret board neck. It is extremely rare and would reasonably be $50 - $60K. Though it has been refinished from it’s original custom color, it keeps the original logo and still retains it’s other custom order features from Leo. All the original parts including 1957 gold plated hardware, 100% correct for ‘57 Mary Kay Stratocaster, plus the original custom order 2 piece maple cap neck. If you add up what the value of this guitar would reasonably sell for just in parts - you can see this is priced to save you money.In Detail: All Original except for nitro refin in LP gold. Maple Cap Neck is original custom order and has a pro refret with original decal with some over spray to keep from flaking. Maple Cap fret board stamped 2 Jun 62 B. 1957 Gold Hardware - neck plate Serial # 16285 from 1957. Which is first year for Mary Kay Stratocaster with Gold Hardware. All Gold plated hardware including: Single line gold Kluson tuners as from 1957, (Hi E tuner is clipped at top of plate), neck plate, tremolo, Fender patent pend saddles, screws and springs, jack cup, all screws, string tree and strap buttons. 3/63 Original pencil dated Body – pickguard, shield, knobs, covers, pots, pickups and switch with 3 matched 1963 original pots, 3046315 date codes. Original staggered pole pickups, black bobbins with cloth wire. Original 3 way switch and cap. Ground wire solder joint on volume pot re-solder. All the contours on body are original, no extra routes. Newer tremolo arm. These Pre CBS Stratocaster only go up in value each year.
