Collings 290 solid body guitar made in Austin Texas, with upgrades including the “Doghair” finish, and pearloid headstock and guard. Excellent, almost new condition, bargain price! Collings make the best new guitars in my opinion. The 290 features a light weight solid mahogany body and neck, rosewood fingerboard, nice and simple for a great rock & roll experience. Two Jason Lollar P90 style pickups. Tone Pros lockdown bridge and tail piece. Quality tuners. Set up perfectly with .010 gauge Ernie Balls. It is like a Gibson Les Paul Special, but is different enough to be its own thing. The finish is achieved by using a light colour filler in the mahogany grain, then using a near-black lacquer over it, which creates this amazing effect. The finish is perfect and mirror-like, but incredibly thin and tough. Collings only make around 3 electric guitars per day, with a staff of 30, that shows the attention to detail. The case is Ameritage, just about the best and most protective case there is, and it is also like new. Condition of this amazing guitar is almost like new. It is a few years old, I have played it a couple of times, only 2 actual gigs (sitting down so no buckle wear) there are no dings or scratches and no fret wear. It could pass for new or ex-demo. There may be the smallest possible signs of use, for example the plating on the bridge is very, very slightly dulled, but still fine, I have been extremely careful, and the guitar still smells and looks new when you open the case. The warranty card is still present and unused, and will no doubt never be needed anyway as Collings make guitars properly from the best available materials. I’m moving on to my Collings i35 for live work, as I prefer humbucking pickups and a semi-hollow body, but there’s nothing about the sound or playability of this 290 guitar that is less than totally professional quality. I just prefer the semi-hollow body & HBs on i35 Collings guitars. I bought this to try it out, as it looks so great and plays so well, but it doesn’t suit me sound wise, so you can get a bargain. If you can find a 290 like this one for sale in the UK, it would currently be around £2850 but will undoubtedly go up next year, as the exchange rate is currently disadvantaged when buying USA goods in a UK or EU country. It is a really good price at £1895.00 as you get the full Collings new experience at a budget price, around £1,000.00 cheaper than the current new UK retail, which is GOING UP due to the Brexit exchange rate issue.
