Reasonably rare Rickenbacker 230 "Hamburg" electric guitar, with a serial number indicating it was made in 1988. Rickenbacker produced the 200 series in the late 80s/early 90s, and the 230 was designed as a stripped down guitar that kept faith with their reputation for attention to detail, durability, and really solid performance. It was built with their premium hardware, double trussrod, and quality pickups, knobs and a bridge set-up to last. Notably, this guitar has battery-less active Rickenbacker HB2 humbucker-style pickups, probably the closest to a Gibson humbucker they ever manufactured. I use it through an AC30 and my friends call it the Rockenbacker. Body: Solid maple with a black finish, 2 volume 2 tone, 3 way switch, saddle bridge, and 2 HB2 pickups. It incorporates a custom-built white pickguard specially made by Pickguardian. Neck: Bolt on maple w/rosewood fretboard, 24 frets. Grover tuners.Case: Comes with the pictured hardcase (I think its original).
This guitar sounds and performs great, it is super-solid but certainly shows its age and that is has been played. For example in the last couple of years I have been using it as by primary back-up in my band. I really like it, but I have to get a 12-string. Cosmetically it has several chips and small dings and when you get close you can see the finish coat is checked pretty much all over. I have tried to faithfully picture all that. Aside from cosmetics, the guitar is really sound. The neck is straight and the action is very low and the guitar plays well.
