It is a flat-top 55 body style, dark sunburst, two "T top" , no binding, dot inlays, and a bolt on neck. The GK-55 also came equipped with the TP-6 fine-tuning tailpiece. These were made in the Gibson plant in Kalamazoo, MI in 1979. Only 1000 were ever produced. the GK stands for Gibson-Kalamazoo.The Gibson model GK-55 was produced for only two consecutive years in short runs. Although the total quantity produced is a matter of debate, these guitars are rare. Here's The Run Down: This is a Super Clean & Rare 1979 Gibson USA GK-55 in a color that is near impossible to find. Do some research and you'll see that finding another like it will prove to be difficult. This Vintage Gibson sounds and plays awesome as you would expect of a vintage Gibson USA instrument! This guitar was played very little over the years and is extremely clean for a 37 year old vintage guitar. There will be extremely minor flaws hear and there, but wayyyy better than any others I've seen (see pics). I tried to take really good pics, so you can judge for yourself (see pics). There are NO breaks, repairs or damage. All electronics are original and operate perfectly. There is NO buckle rash on the finish, NO fret wear, and minor discoloration of the hardware to speak of. If your looking for a super cool, great playing limited production Vintage USA Gibson Guitar in original condition, this would make a great addition to the herd!At some point a Bill Lawrence L-500 Lead was installed in the neck position with a coil splitting pot. The pot will split both pickups. The controls are coil split/volume/tone/tone. This guitar is extremely versatile and sounds awesome!
This 1979 USA Gibson GK-55 sounds and plays amazing! Although I think its set up great, everyone has their own preferences. If your not happy with its set up, it will be your responsibility and cost to have it set up to your liking. The neck is straight and the truss rod operates as it should. All electronics operate perfectly! The Original '70s Gibson Red Lined Hard Case is a great case in great shape. It is a fully functional with no repairs. All latches and hinges operate as they should. It will have some flaws from age and use, but still very nice! Everything operates as it should, and has never had, nor does it have any breaks or repairs unless noted above. Make sure you view all of the pics and ask questions if you have any concerns before buying. I will ship this item over seas, but you must contact me for a shipping quote before buying.
