Stick to zener when you want to tame the devil, but when you want fast, hard knee smacking on a track, the germanium setting is exactly what you're looking for. This comp doesn't do creamy, lush compression but there are plenty of other boxes for you if that's what you're looking for - the IGS One LA, Retro Doublewide, Crane Song falcon, Roll Valvop, etc. Really, my only complaint is the labelling of the mix knob. It's a wet/dry control which is REALLY handy on a compressor like this, but instead of being labelled wet on one side and dry on the other, it's numbered 1 thru 6. Just try and remember that left is wet and right is dry, or set the comp to some extreme settings and you shouldn't have much trouble hearing which is which. Overall, it's an outstanding compressor and would still be a great box even when compared with rackmount gear.
