Up for sale, a 1960's Harmony H59 triple pickup Rocket in lovingly played and well maintained condition. This guitar features a great birdseye maple top with grain and figuring that shows through the two-tone nitro lacquer sunburst finish, along with a trio of DeArmond Gold Foil "Golden Tone" pickups. This particular guitar was crafted in the USA by Harmony, and is a much more impressive instrument in terms of both tone and playability when compared to more recent offshore reissues. Acoustically, this guitar has a strident, percussive quality that translates well through the pickups with plenty of sparkle and twang.  Professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and strung with 11-50 strings, this Harmony Rocket is a real stunner!
There's really nothing that can match the balance, clarity and overall tonal character of original DeArmond Gold Foil pickups. They have a percussive snap and twang, tight bass, and a harmonically rich midrange that sounds great when each pickup is singled out or when paired together. All three pickups have strong and consistent output, and when mated with the fully hollow maple body, the tone gets both the immediate attack of the maple and the warmth and fullness of the hollow construction. The neck has a medium C profile that feels substantial and borders on the chunky side, with a 1 11/16" nut width and well rounded shoulders that fill the palm comfortably without feeling cumbersome. The fretboard boasts the original fretwire, which has been leveled and crowned, currently showing only moderate wear beneath the plain strings on frets 1-3 and almost no wear further up the neck. The guitar plays cleanly all the way to the last fret, and the neck is quite straight, given the steel reinforced yet non-adjustable design. On the headstock, the Harmony and Rocket silkscreen logos are intact, and the original Waverly tuners turn smoothly and hold pitch well with original white buttons. The G tuner has a bend in the arm of the tuner, but still functions exactly as intended. On the body, all of the electronics work as they should, with cupcake Volume and Tone knobs for each pickup that follow the contour of the lower bout of the body, paired with a four-way rotary pickup selector switch. The rotary switch has just been replaced with a high quality modern reissue to ensure that all pickup selections engage reliably. The original Brazilian rosewood pickup risers are intact as are all three of the original DeArmond gold foils. While the trapeze tailpiece is stock, the rosewood bridge is a modern reissue carved to the exact shape of the original, and the pickguard is also a modern replacement with the correct Harmony logo. The original sunburst finish has a classic brown to black fade, with prominent birdseye figuring across the lower bout of the guitar's top. This finish shows plenty of wear typical of a guitar that saw its fair share of gigs, with some flaking of the thin nitro lacquer on the treble side of the body just south of the knobs. There is buckle rash on the back and some wear along the headstock edges too with discoloration from heat near the nut (likely from more than a few smoldering cigarettes being held by the strings). The cupcake knobs and binding have also darkened considerably over time, but this Harmony's saloon days are long behind it, and the guitar has no residual smell of smoke.
A true classic with a great array of DeArmond Gold Foil tones, this Harmony H59 is ready for stage and studio use!
