For your consideration is a 1938 C G Conn 48A Connqueror, wide-bell Professional Jazz Bb cornet, serial # 322xxx, in exceptional condition. 1938 was the first year production of this long model cornet. The 48A has a #2 (0.467") bore, bottom spring valves and was produced from 1938 to 1951. This horn has been professionally refurbished, to include chem clean, valves and slides reworked, felts and corks replaced. All dings and dents have been removed where possible. The horn has been delacquered and polished to a warm, soft golden lustre. Note the carefully detailed flowery, etched artwork on the bell.
The valves are quiet and fast, the slides are tight, yet smooth. There is no valve wobble, resulting in good compression. The intonation is exact and distinct, and chromatic slotting is articulate, particularly in the high range above the staff. The horn is very easy to play, and has a bold, yet fresh tone. This horn is very suitable as a lead horn in a jazz or big band group.
The bell diameter is 4 1/2", which is slightly larger than the Conn 40A bell.
The Conn valve finger caps are new, but they are not original to the horn. There is a small, professionally applied patch on #2 slide which was applied sometime in the past, which is not unusual for both the 40A and 48A professional model cornets. Neither of these two conditions affect the horn's playability.
Included is an original Vincent Bach Corp. New York 10 1/2 mouthpiece. Sorry, no case, but the horn will be packed very carefully to ensure that no damage occurs during shipment.
You should note that this horn is priced well below similar models of the same age and condition.
