Up for sale, a D'Angelico Excel DC semi-hollowbody electric guitar in near mint condition and perfect working order. Built as an affordable version of John D'Angelico's universally lauded archtop guitars and crafted in Korea, these reissues cater to the modern Jazz player with a unique and timeless styling that screams D'Angelico. With this is mind, the Excel DC takes the D'Angelico legacy a step further with a semi-hollow design that boasts a center block and all maple construction akin to an ES-335. This design broadens the appeal and usefulness of the Excel DC, making it a perfect fit for a wide range of genres, with the ability to handle copious amounts of gain while staying focused and clear. The dual Kent Armstrong humbuckers provide tones that are both fat and smooth without sacrificing detail. Weighing in at 8lbs 12oz, there's a surprising amount of punch and power on tap both when strummed acoustically and when plugged in, and the instrument balances well on a strap too. Professionally setup here at Mike and Mike's Guitar Bar and strung with 10-46 strings, this guitar plays very easily with low action and solid intonation. The neck has a fairly wide and slender profile, with a 1 11/16" hand carved bone nut that leaves ideal spacing for fingerstyle playing, complex chord voicings and accurate leads. The neck profile still has enough depth to feel sturdy and reliable, with a bound ebony fretboard, pearl block inlays, and 22 well crowned frets. The fretwire is virtually unplayed, only showing the absolute lightest fret wear on the first couple fret crowns beneath the B and E strings. On the headstock, the USA made Grover Imperial tuning machines have flawless gold plating, turn smoothly, and hold pitch extremely well, given that these tuners have historically been the flagship gears of the Grover line. The body sports a vibrant amber sunburst finish, with multi-layer white top and back binding, gold hardware, and a bound stair step tortoise pickguard. The top is laminated maple and features very tight and straight grain, while the back and sides are maple that boast an incredibly deep flame that has to be seen in person to be fully appreciated. All of the electronics work as they should, with the pair of Kent Armstrong humbuckers wired to individual Volume and Tone controls and a three-way pickup selector toggle switch. Cosmetically, this guitar is in fabulous shape, having been purchased new and immediately stored. Overall, this guitar is a perfect option for anyone looking to class up their arsenal of instruments with a quality semi-hollowbody that boasts USA-made electronics and hardware. The original D'Angelico branded TKL hardshell case is included.
