Up for sale, a 2015 Gretsch Penguin model G6134CS from the USA Custom Shop in exceptional, near mint condition and in perfect working order. Arguably a more consistently made and expertly crafted guitar than Gretsch's vintage output, this Penguin is a one-off special ordered in Burgundy Mist nitro lacquer and built by Gretsch master builder Stephen Stern. According to Gretsch:"The Gretsch Custom Shop is where the time-honored legacy reaches its creative apex. No instruments epitomize the extraordinary expertise and attention to detail of Gretsch’s most trusted hands like Custom Shop instruments. From modern versions of legendary Gretsch instruments to artist tribute models and specially requested one-off guitars, the Gretsch Custom Shop takes “That Great Gretsch Sound” to an entirely new plane, but also preserves and perfects it."Outfitted with a pair of TV Jones Classic "Filter'Tron" humbuckers, this iconic Gretsch pickup has great power and midrange presence, with the top end twang and articulation that has made this instrument a favorite for Rockabilly and Western Swing. The acoustically chambered body adds a bit more low end fullness to the tone, and the instrument weighs in at 8lbs 14oz. We've had this Gretsch professionally setup here at Mike & Mike's Guitar Bar and dialed in with fresh 10-46 strings and ideal action. The neck has a round and substantial C shaped profile with generous shoulders, and the bound ebony fretboard features immaculate slender vintage-style fretwire. The inlayed pearl hump block inlays on the board have rare wing inlays and the hand carved bone nut measures 1 11/16" in width. Decked out with more gold sparkle trim including a vertical Gretsch logo and truss rod cover, the headstock also boasts Grover Imperial tuners that turn very smoothly and have flawless gold plating. All of the electronics work as they should, with individual G arrow knobs and faux ruby position markers. The control layout consists of individual Volume knobs for each pickup, as well as a Master Volume on the treble side cutaway horn, three-way pickup selector switch, and three-way tone switch which is bypassed in the middle position. Other hardware includes a Melita bridge, Cadillac tailpiece, matching gold armrest, and classic Penguin pickguard. Cosmetically, we'll conservatively call this guitar near mint, but we simply can't find a single scratch on this one-owner gem.
The original Custom Shop gray speckled hardshell case, case candy, paperwork, COA, and embroidered Gretsch bag are all included.
