Fujigen Japan FGN "J" Standard Iliad Telecaster & New Hard Case£549.00  JAPAN IMPORT Brand new with tags ! Made in Japan at the Fujigen Gakki plant. This fabulous guitar is unavailable in the UK I've been looking for a new gigging guitar for some time now. I wanted a telecaster with single coil pickups. I found these lovely FGN guitars on the internet. They are built at the famous Fujigen factory in Japan where some of the best  guitars of the last 40 years have been made. Think JV Series, Esprits, Ibanez Artists, Grecos etc etc. Having made guitars for all these other brands in the past, Fujigen also make their own guitars under the FGN banner. Their website is quite comprehensive and there are some reviews on youtube like this: The problem is that there are no stockists in the UK. When I emailed FGN they said that most large UK retailers were locked into deals with other companies & wouldn't stock them. It was too expensive to get one from Japan so I ended up importing one from Europe, well, actually two  I couldn't decide between black or blonde so I bought both  :)When they arrived they were almost identical but I ended up choosing the black one as I fancied a change from the maple neck I had been playing on my Yamaha. For information, this guitar is being sold at the same price I paid for it. I just want to cover my costs. Since "Brexit" the price of imported guitars from Japan has increased by quite a significant amount. That makes this guitar really good value  Item Details from FGN.... FGN J-Standard ILIADElectric Guitar in Off White Blonde・Grade-AAA American light ash body and Canadian hard maple fingerboard・Soft U-shaped Canadian Hard Maple neck with special natural satin finished・High-end and reliable tuners made by Gotoh・3-brass saddle vintage style bridge・FGN original designed single pickups・Smooth Fret Edge for J-Standard series・Circle Fretting System (C.F.S)FeaturesCONSTRUCTION Bolt OnFRETS 21F Midium High (C.F.S)TUNERS Gotoh SD91-05M Magnum LockBODY American Swamp AshSCALE 25.5" (648mm)NECK Canadian Hard MapleNECKWIDTH 0F(Nut): 42mm, 21F: 56mmNECK THICKNESS 1F: 19.5mm, 12F: 21mm  Soft-U Shape (Natural Smooth Satin Finish)FINGERBOARD Canadian Hard MapleFINGERBOARD RADIUS 305RCONTROLS 1Vol, 1Tone, 3-Way SWBRIDGE FJIL-3WSTD (Brass saddle)PICKUPS FGN JIL-Sn (neck), FGN JIL-Sb (bridge)PARTS COLOR ChromeCOLOR Off White Blonde (OWB)STRINGS / TUNING D'Addario EXL110 (.010-.046), Standard E TuningFINISH PolyesterCASE Gig Bag      FGN's attention to detail is great. Note the binding on the top edge as well as a decent bridge, through body stringing and nicely laid out controls.       A slightly smaller headstock than on a Fender. Tuners are GOTOH and work extremely well. Trussrod is nice and easy to adjust from here (Unlike my Yamaha where you had to remove the neck !)     The blonde finish is lovely with the Ash grain showing through the translucent  lacquer. Difficult to see but the neck has some lovely figuring. The "U" shape feels slightly different to the usual modern "C" that is on most guitars but it is slim and really comfortable     Through body stringing gives better sustain. You can see the figuring on the neck in this photo.  Serial number actually shows manufacture in 2013, but I promise it's new :) And "Made in Japan"As shown on the tag & on the back of the headstock the guitar also features CFS (Circle fretting system) This is what FGN say about it: Circle Fretting System (C.F.S.)Finely finished and slightly curved frets are mounted on the fingerboard to enhance pitch accuracy and create cleaner longer sustain and true harmonics.(* the frets we used aren't special ones, and you can ask your nearest repair shop and do a refret normally.)  Note the shape of the neck plate. It's been done like this so that the body can be shaped to give better access to the top frets. The plate has cool Japanese symbols & "FUJIGEN" stamped under the sticker     FGN's own pickups are featured on this guitar. Looking at their website, FGN also use SD pickups on some guitars, but these aren't. They are however, excellent & very powerful for single coil and  their ratings are as followsNeck 7.95kBridge 8.68k    Sorry, I don't know what the lettering means which is almost the same on the neck pickup. They are both top quality with alnico magnets    So, to sum up. A lovely guitar which is new & with original tags, gigbag and  supplied with a new, lockable hardcase. I did inspect and set up this guitar before playing it for about 5 minutes.Whitstable Guitars has been operating as an online shop specialising in Japanese & North American guitars since 2008.
