So, the model of this guitar is a mystery. We’ve done hours of research and based upon the logo and other features we’ve narrowed it down to 1963-67. This guitar is the body shape and style of a Combo I (Mark I, Model 300) except it doesn’t have an F-hole or vibrato system. Some of the Ventures models have the same tailpiece and appointments but are smaller in body and the cutaways aren’t nearly as offset. The color is a metallic red, which was introduced by name in 1968 but was still in production as just “red” before then. This Mosrite is all original. Does not come with a case. The body shows some wear and, being vintage, expected crackling in the finish. There are various dings around the body, but no major cracks or issues. The pickguard is missing one little corner up by the neck pocket. This is a fairly bright-sounding all-maple hollowbody with maple neck. The small neck is straight and the truss rod turns surprisingly well. The frets have been redressed at some point, but still have life in them. The action is impressive. All the electronics and both pickups work fine. Both potentiometers currently work as volume knobs since the capacitor is missing from one of them, thus not allowing the tone roll off. Easy to replace, but we’ve not done as to allow the buyer to choose what they want to put on (e.g. Orange Drop, etc.). Mosrite serial numbers are normally stamped directly into the end of the fretboard. This serial was scraped off at some point, which can imply theft, but this looks to have been done long ago based upon the overall smoothness and patina of the fretboard. (Don't worry, we acquired this guitar legitimately.) On the inside of the neck pocket is a sticker for Jack Davenport’s Typewriter Company in Bakersfield, CA (which is where Mosrite was based at the time this was manufactured). We looked them up but that business has long been closed. Overall, aside from not being quite sure what model this is exactly, this Mosrite sounds great, has excellent character, and is very easy to play. Thanks for looking.
