Description

Please be sure to watch the video tour above AND the pictures listed !1979 Gibson Les Paul 25/50 Anniversary Tobacco Sunburst 1977/1978 was a BIG year for Gibson and Mr. Les Paul, himself. These years marked the 25th year that Gibson and Les Paul teamed up and 50 years of Les Paul being in the Music Business. Respectively, these are both the Silver and Gold anniversaries and Gibson went all out to celebrate. Explosive flame tops, awesome 5 piece necks, coil tapping stock for the first time, TP6 tailpieces, commemorative belt buckles and 3,411 of them were made. These are fantastic guitars and a MUST have for any guitar collection. Whether you like the Norlin era or not, these are very well made pieces of art. The Case…   This beauty comes in a non-original hardshell case. The Guitar!   This is one HOT guitar! While it may not be in perfect condition, it is in fantastic, well cared for condition that is perfect for the collector/player, though it probably has a little bit too much wear for the strict collector. She weighs 10lbs 15oz and has a Slim 60s profiled neck The headstock veneer shows light scratching from string changes, including a few that are more prominent than others around the tuning pegs. There is also a pretty good scratch on the left side of the truss rod cover. The Truss Rod Cover itself has some tarnishing going on. The original brass nut polished up fine and the frets are in great shape! They show very minor wear and the ebony fretboard and Super 400 inlays are in equally great shape. They were just oiled and are ready to be played! The gold and brass hardware show some tarnishing around the guitar. The faces of the pickup covers are fairly clean, but around the edges of the covers is where most of the tarnishing is. The bridge, tailpiece, posts, tuners and strap buttons also exhibit tarnishing. The bracket for the pickguard has lost much of its plating. The front of the body is a great shape, but does have some common player’s wear. There are fine picking/playing scratches on the top of the guitar. 99% of these would likely disappear with a professional polish job. What won’t disappear would be the 10 or so small dings around the top – the most notable being the 2 towards the bottom of the top. These dings are really only viewable when searching for them in the light.

The 5 piece maple neck is in awesome shape! It has lots of flame and a really cool color scheme going on as well. Around the 9th fret area there is an area of worn finish that looks like the clear coat was somehow scraped off in the middle of the neck as well as a few other very light indentations on the neck. The back of the guitar is in good shape but exhibits player’s wear as well. When looking straight on, it appears very clean, but once you start searching in the light, a considerable amount of buckle worming and scratches become evident. The bottom of the guitar shows some very light stand rash and a few dings on the sides, most notable in the cutaway area.   Conclusion   This is a really cool guitar. The top has an awesome flame pattern to it and the neck is to die for as well. While it might not be in 100% perfect condition, it is still in great overall shape and will surely not disappoint the player/collector.
