DescriptionOn offer is a 25/50th Anniversary Gibson Les Paul. This Limited Edition Les Paul was produced to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Gibson Les Paul Custom and the 50th Anniversary of Les Paul's music career. The Anniversaries fell in 1979, although this particular guitar dates to 1978 according to its serial number, November 10, 1978 to be exact. Presumably Gibson was gearing up to release the guitar at the 1979 NAMM show. The figured maple top on this one is a stunner as you will note in the photos. This is a typically sturdy late 1970s Les Paul in that it is a very solid weight being a non-weight relieved body (ahhh... the good ol' days, eh?), 5.658kg to be precise. So, if it's a light weight Les Paul (yes, they do exist) you are after, this is one is not for you! The up side is there's a load of sustain to be had here. Showing some mid-range normal playing wear as you would expect on a guitar that is from the late 1970s. Check out the shots, should extra photos be required for consideration, let us know. There has been a professional refret somewhere along the guitars journey, nice clean job too.The guitar is playing exceptionally well and we will be happy to restring with the new owners choice of gauge and set up as required.I draw your attention to the serial number, just above there has been "SECOND" pressed into the lacquer. Gibson did this until 1985 with instruments that had slight imperfections in the finish or binding but were perfect in all other areas. As with the vast majority of  'seconds" I have seen I have not been able to pick the fault. In saying that, if the fault was in the finish it would be exceedingly difficult to pick after all these years. The general consensus in the Gibson and Les Pauls  forums I have seen online is that there is little or no effect on the guitars value owing to the guitar being marked as a second, just opinions as in all forums, of course, but interesting nonetheless. One forum () notes that "Despite its "limited edition" marketing image, it is ironic that some factory seconds of the 25/50 were released."
