'66 reissue Fender Mustang CIJ R Serial (2004-05) California BlueHere is a very cool '66 Reissue R Serial CIJ (2004-05) Fender Mustang. The main Fender Japan Mustang run reissues were MG65, MG69 and MG73. Very few ’66 Mustangs were ever built. The ones that were built were solely for the Japanese domestic market, so you won’t see too many outside Japan. Most 66's were finished in Fender’s awesome California Blue too like this one, the only Fender Mustang to be factory finished in this colour. To be honest, aside from the colour I can’t really see many differences between this and the MG65. It’s true to the vintage Fender ’65-66 spec, with the slab body, rosewood fingerboard, button tuners, 3-ply pickguard (flat cream) and fender stamped neckplate. This one plays brilliantly, very resonant with plenty of Mustang attitude. The rosewood fingerboard has some nice darker streaking in it. She's has been played so if you are looking for a mint shop floor ‘stang she’s not for you. However if you are looking or a fantastic vintage spec player in an awesome colour with plenty of mojo then look no further! Neck is dead straight, truss rod fine, plenty of life left in the frets and no mods, breaks, repairs or routing. Structurally and electrically sound. There is plenty of playwear: chips, nicks and scrapes, although no chipped paint or anything too harsh. A couple of little nicks out he edge of the fingerboard. Complete with gig bag and trem arm. Built immaculately as you'd expect from Fender Japan. A very nice 1966 vintage specification Mustang in a pretty cool colour. No more Mustangs are being built by Fender in Japan since production was moved to Mexico to cut costs, so snap up these beautifully crafted guitars while you still can.
